confusion about clutches

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of going hybrid turbo thus will need a clutch, I'm Mechanically sympathetic but don't understand this smf and dmf.

I want something that is reasonable cheap will handle the power but won't be a pig drive and Wear out after 5 mins.

Whst do people recommend/suggest?

Cheers

What do you class as reasonably cheap?

I purchased the road going Helix yesterday for £900. The paddle clutch was just £25 extra.

DMF is dual mass flywheel, and is used to reduce clutch chatter and vibration, but are prone to breaking even at standard power.

SMF is single mass flywheel, which is much stronger, however on these engines gives the chatter that can be heard when in neutral with the clutch up.

If you go with a Helix or Sachs, or I had Southbend that Darkside Developments sell, these are an 'organic' clutch which keep the daily driveability of the car.  Its when you go with paddle clutches that the driveability goes out the window, but they're overkill for hybrid power.

DMF's can be used at hybrid power, and many people do, but you cant nail it low down the revs like you can with an uprated SMF clutch.  Clutches aren't cheap though.  If you think about it, what's the point in spending all that money on power to not be able to properly use it...
