Polishing...pads etc

Featured Replies

Good Morning, Chaps.

Some time back, maybe a year, I treated myself to a Meguiars G220 DA…complete with Yellow and Black pads.

Since then I have polished my car a number of times and find I have a number of queries:

  1. At what stage should I stop polishing? I put the polish onto the pad and begin at low speed until its `worked in`, then up to high speed, but then I’ve no idea when to stop! How do I know? I’m concerned that I may be doing damage by going on for too long.
  2. 2. What exactly is the Black pad for? I got it because it said it was a `finishing pad` but I don’t really know what that means. Once I’ve finished polishing with the machine I wipe down with a polishing cloth and then add the sealant and or wax by hand. So, where does this black pad come in?

Many thanks.

Mike.

You work it until the polish goes clear.....

It takes time...dependant on the polish..I do a 2 foot square box and work until the polish has diminished

The black pad is to jewel up the finish with a very light cut polish

You really do need to get over here Mike for some 'lessons'

Good luck

Yeah, you're right, Chris...I do need some lessons!

In the meantime...so, after I've polished and buffed up from that, I then polish again with the black pad and some of this `light cut polish`. Have I got that right?

If so, can you recommend one?

Many thanks.

Menzerna Final Finish

Thanks, Chris.

Mike.

Although its off the Halfords shelf,  I find the super resin polish a good final stage.

I do have MZ F/F in my collection though - t'is good.

Jason

SRP is an 'All in One' cleaner and sealer polish ....full of fillers...a good all purpose every day product for beginners

However......I would not advocate its use ever as a final stage after machine polishing prior to a 'proper' sealer or wax LSP
