Grille stone chips....

Featured Replies

Ok, I'm in a bit of a mood. A few weeks back I spent a massive amount of my time properly spraying the front grille surround in Black Magic. I had an absolutely perfect finish on it. However, I've just found a massive chip out of it after 2 weeks of it being on the car.

At times like this I feel like just saying f**k it, run the b***ard into the ground and don't waste any more of your life on it. Really makes me wonder what the point is sometimes....

Rant over.

So basically I'm gonna have to re-do it at some point. Will touch it up for now. However, when I do re-do it, isn't the same thing just going to happen?! Is that film stuff any good? I know you can have parts of your car covered in some sort of protective film to help avoid this. Just wondering if it'd be worth going down that route? As I want a proper gloss finish, i.e. not Plastidip.

fact of life bud ... sure your bumper and bonnet also have stone chips

This is why I wrapped mine although mine did stay chip free for about 6 months.

Hi,

I have the first third off my bonnet wrapped in clear looks very good. I took this opportunity after someone hit me and it had to be resprayed. The firm who completed the wrapping had some over so finished around the edge of the grill.

How about just gloss black wrap mate? And any pics john42 of the clear wrap on the bonnet please?

I accepted that it would eventually get a stone chip. However, less than 2 weeks after getting it on the car and a MASSIVE chip is now present. Seriously unimpressed and p***ed off!!

Thanks John, that's the sort of info that I'm looking for really. What does it look like? As above... any pictures?

L17 LOB - I could gloss black wrap it, but the finish of that is no-where near as good as I got from spraying it. Hence I'd rather keep it sprayed if I can protect it and keep it looking as good.
