Am thinking about buying a Fabia but insure weather to go VRS or just a 1.9. Whats the MPG like on them in standard and mapped to 180-220? Because i think am going to have to go diesel because driving the S3 on a daily basis is getting expensive. Thanks

Real world mpg is gonna be 40 - 60mpg

they don't map to 180-220, to achieve over 180 you need a bigger turbo mate... If I sit at 65 with CC on the motorway it'll do between 64-67 mpg on the trip computer, probably about 55-60 mpg realistically thow. I got better mpg after I got mine mapped too.

Will a Pd150 take it to 180-220ish?What are clutches like at 180+? Also 55MPG + sounds like heaven haha, S3 does around 22 :(.

My wife runs a stage 1 VRS. We travelled down to Bristol yesterday. Tank was brimmed in Bristol and return journey was Bristol to Essex then home to Kent which was 193 miles. Once home I brimmed the tank again. It had used £15 worth

What power is she running? And did it need a new clutch with a stage 1 map?

Shark stage 1 Map so about 170 ish BHP. Car is at 70 k on original clutch. My wife drives very sensibly hence the 193 miles for £15. However I rag it at every opportunity. Car had 58k on the clock when we got it and had it mapped the same day. So 12 k since being mapped and clutch is still fine.

Loads of threads about on what the vRS does at Stage 01!

It's all pot luck with regards to clutches though mate. Same with turbo's. I had a Shark Stage 01 map at about 165bhp & 290ft/lbs, and I'm still happily on my standard clutch. However, my standard KKK turbo went pop a while back. Ultimately, you'll hear all sorts of stories about components going or not....

At the end of the day, a Shark Stage 01 map completely changes the car, and turns it from a relatively 'warm' diesel into something a lot quicker. It will still give you 50mpg average if you do a mixture of roads. However, it's easier to put your foot down with a map, so you need to be relatively restrained to keep your average up! Saying this, I've given it the beans lots of times on a full tank, and have still got an average of over 40mpg....

Brilliant little motors!!! Get one!!

If you want anything over a simple re-map, then you're talking front mount intercooler, new clutch, hybrid turbo etc....   Big money basically.

Just want a nippy one that does OK mpg. Does really high mileage effect them allot? 170k+ ?

Mines recently had a stage 1 map and I've not seen a decrease in mpg even though I give it more stick now. Look at my signature that shows my real mpg after every fill up but I usually average around 54mpg and near on 600 miles from a tank

Typical remap is 170bhp. Needs a hybrid turbo to get north of 200bhp.

PD100 remapped get 130-140bhp. Injectors plus turbo gets to 170 like the VRS.

MPG on longer journeys should be 50+. Maybe less so in winter due to Winter diesel and warm up times from very cold starting.

Consider also the Ibiza Sport and FR PD versions. I guess you should also consider the Polo too.

I'd consider buying higher mileage examples but would need to know it's got good service history and a nice quiet engine.

600 miles!!! What sort of roads are you on to be getting that?

Most I have ever got is about 450, and that was me being light footed!

Fill up the expansion on the tank! Mostly a1 and motorways doing 70-80,it does over 100 miles before the needle moves
