1.6 TDI oil leak

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Last friday I drove my Octavia (mk3 1,6 TDI, 05/2013) on the first regular service (15000km) at authorised service center.

After half an hour the mechanic called me and he said that there is an oil leak from the engine. He saw that after he removed the protection under the engine. Today they did some extra investigation and found that oil was leaking at several places.

I have to say that I'm a bit confused, the car is just 6 months old and has 15000km. The guy from service also said that thay may need to open the engine.

I just don't know what to do, or what should I request from them. I just don't like the idea of opening the engine because I think that they can never assemble it as in the factory.

Did anyone hear or see anything similar?

Hi mate what was the outcome of your oil leak, I have just bought the same car and have discovered I have a leak,it went in last week to be sorted and was told it was the front crankcase oil seal and they had replaced it,however it is leaking even more now, any input would be great

Thanks

Hi, today I went to yearly regular service (short intervals) I do 12K km in a year.

After leaving the car in Škoda service center. I got a call that engine is slightly leaking oil. And part of it needs to be disassembled to reach places where it's leaking to seal the leaks and put it all back together.

Now it's common thing that this happens to some engines. But they say there's 6h of work on a car.
And with taxes it's costs 740 €  or 650 £ That's how much I pay for registration, base insurance and full cover insurance for a year. This was a shock obviously. That made me think of selling my car. Just last year my battery died, and front parking sensors processor. That was also a shock, bit less than this repair but expensive as well!

Car is out of warranty obviously with 38K km on the clock. OFC I will fix this but bit frustrated and sad thinking of selling my first car.

Didn't you think to ask them where it was leaking from?

They say "necessary sealing housings camshaft / console / + sealing flange of the crankshaft below the toothed belt".

I am wondering how this started? Was something done wrong on last service, to much oil or something. Cuz they give you warranty on their work. I take my car to authorized Škoda service.

It’s probably been like it while it’s been under warranty but they have ignored it until the point where they don’t have to repair it for free.

I would get a second opinion at least maybe from an independent vag garage.

So yesterday I went to my friend who is mechanic. He took a look at the engine and said he doesn't see any oil leak. And that they are probably trying to rip me off.

I am going to take the car to another Škoda service for second opinion. They better not be trying to scam me!
