No glow plug light on the dash?

Featured Replies

My mate got himself a Fabia VRS today, when he switched on the ignition, there is a glow plug light which goes off after a while and he can start the engine, i looked it up in the manual and it's the glow plug light. I don't have this light at all in my Fabia, never ever had any issues starting up but thought i'd ask as it's going to be my first winter with this car.

Is it important and should i get it looked at?? i usually switch on the ignition and wait about a minute before starting the engine

I've seen mine flash on sometimes but for a barely a second or so on cold starts, never seen it stay on for any noticeable length of time in mine.

If the light is staying on for a long time in your mates car before it goes out I'd suspect an issue with the glow plugs. They are a serviceable item. I believe the earth strap is prone to failing on them so maybe worth checking that all the connections are good and it's not frayed anywhere but failing that it's not uncommon for them to go. Just be careful when replacing them as I've read they can be a bit of a pain and if they snap in the head it's a head off job to get them out!

is yours a petrol? lol

Get a fault code scan, it's also possible the GP light has been removed.

Will try and get it booked in tomorrow

Could it also be that it's not been cold enough yet for it to come on and it's my mates one which has a problem with it??

it should come on for a few seconds when the ignition is on.
