Golf GTi MKV Cup edition

Featured Replies

I just drove one today!!! WOW!!!

I had to go and meet a client far out in Dubai in his studio in a warehouse (in a complex). In that complex, Motorworks Racing office and garage is located JUST opposite (10 meters away) the studio. So after I finished inside the studio, the client and I were talkin' about cars, because he's got a VW Beetle Millenium Cup Edition with a 1.8T engine in it, and he wants to put in a Carrera Turbo engine in it. I point out that it would be difficult considering the fact that the new Beetle models have the engine in the front and not the rear like the old ones, and this was confirmed by the manager of Motorworks Racing who we saw when we went in a few minutes later.

A Golf GTi MKv Turbo here costs about GBP14,000, for four doors, 17s and full options. Totally standard pretty much, everything from VW.

The Golf I drove is the local Cup Edition. This Cup edition comes with Sparco seats, a roll-cage, stripped interior, lightweight lowering suspension and OZ multispoke rims, along with decals and stickers (if I could find a complete pic I would have put it up, but I couln't, the only thing on the site was a scroll image of the car so I kept printing screen at various parts and made the picture below myself, so please excuse the inconstent logo 'Motorworks' on the side.. :D), ALL done by Motorworks Racing locally. The car is bought by them from the local dealer and modified (all except the engine, which is left standard. Power and handling 'increased and improved' with weight saves made with the Sparcos, stripped interior, two missing doors and lightweight coilovers. So I'm thinking about 100kgs or more is off the car.

All three of us are talking about it, and then he OFFERS to let me drive the car!!! At first I was hesitant, but then he insisted so I was like 'okay!!!'. So I get in. One problem. The Sparcos were medium sized. I'm a big guy. Let me put it like this....I din't need to wear a seatbelt on the road, I was held in so tight by the seats I could NOT move anything except my arms!!

Anyways...the drive....GOD!!!!! I've driven the Mini Cooper S Works and had it for two days and it IS a fast car with 200BHP and a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds but this Golf was DEFINITELY alot faster!!!!!!! That damn turbo kicks in at about 2,000rpm and it RIPS!!!!! They've also put in a dump valve! So I'm on the road flooring it goin' ghoooooooooooooooo wtishhhhhhh!!!!!!' :D It is soooooooo fast!!! First gear hits somethin' like 75kmph! Quickshift up and I'm already at 100!!I hit 100 in no time, I'm thinkin' somewhere in the very low 6s or very high 5s!!!!!!!!!! I mean really fast!! 2nd gear?????? OOOOOF!!!!! You guys talkin' in-gear acceleration!?!? This thing is a maniac!!! WOW! Sorry I'm so excited, but I always meant to go into the showroom to test drive the GTi but I NEVER THOUGHT IN MY LIFE I would get to drive this model! Pictures of it are everywhere in magazines here!

Brakes are great!!! You use engine-braking with it and there is unbelievable stopping power!

Handling is alright...(my Fabia being extremely low with H&Rs and the strut I just got, PLUS those ultra grippy Falkens handles much better), but with the car actually being a pretty big and 'high' car, it was pretty dodgy, even with the modified suspension.

The handling was pretty much the only downer in this, everything else was fantastic in my opinion. Not only that, this particular version only cost GBP1500 more than the stock version! Sparco seats??? OZ rims??? Rollcage??? Modified exhaust system ('Fox' I believe)? For just GBP1500 more!? And not only that! You get to keep the stock parts of the car as well! That's a crazy deal!

This offer works this way. To all those who are interested in racing in the U.A.E. GTi Cup, you have to buy this car, and then pay a GBP2500 annual fee to race. Click here for more details if you're interested to know about it.

Anyways...definitely better than the Mini Cooper S Works as far as this league is concerned. Here the MC SW costs about GBP18,000 worth. That's WAY too much (here anyway) for a 1.6 litre car. You can buy a 350z Nissan here for that money, and you'll have 285 horses and a massive V6.

I'm still on a cloud. Bye!:silly:

Sounds like you like it then ;)

For that kinda money it's excellent for sure - not a clue how much it would be if bought in the UK, but probably 5k minimum on top :(

They've also put in a dump valve! So I'm on the road flooring it goin' ghoooooooooooooooo wtishhhhhhh!!!!!!' :D

All petrol Turbo's have a dump valve on ;)

Sounds like a nice car though

What's so funny about that?? I'm not kidding about it, I've driven both so I would know now wouldn't I? You suck man.

And VW yeah I do like it! If i got the chance I would buy it! 15 grand for all that?? Who wouldn't!?

Chavvy boy, you're mistaken. Reason being because I've been in a 4-door GTi MK5 that belongs to one of my clients, and it doesn't have a dump valve in it.

Was it a turbo? :P All VW petrol turbo's have dump valves :D

Chris

A MK5 Golf with 'dodgy' suspension.

Odd seeming how the A5 platform is widely regarded as one of the best handling platforms in its class due to the independant rear suspension.

He isnt mistaken, its does have a dump valve s do 99.9% of petrol turbo cars these days. Its just a recirc type so you dont hear it unless its fitted with a CAI.

no offense meant mil but your fabia riding super low and hard on standard wheels isn't going to out handle a golf v gti that has been prepared by profesionals for racing. yours may feel better to you but you are used to it and know it better.

give both cars to a racing driver and put him on a track, see which he prefers

Whatever. Most of you guys are always up my *** about my car anyway so I'll just shut up. I'm telling you I've riven both hard on corners and I know what a good twister feels like, and you're telling me I'm wrong. Nice.

Lummox that's new information to me. Thank you.

Wow...I just re-read everything and realized I get agitated easily for no reason...Bengie, and everyone in here, I love you all.

My car still handles better though

believe me mate we don't dislike you or your car, don't think your car is crap its just me personally i doubt a car setup by virtually any of us would out perform a car made for racing and setup by pro's :)

Mil - nice post.

Can tell how much your still buzzing!

Keep em coming!
