Self servicing of 1.9 TDi

Featured Replies

40,000 mile service and oil change etc. due, but no workshop manual (I see Mr Haynes is preparing something for next spring) so can someone help me out please in the meantime. At 65 GBP for an oil change alone at 30,000 I'm going the economy DIY route.

The air filter was easy, the fuel filter not quite so ! (not like the old Citreon BX which had a fuel primer pump on the filter housing). But I'm slightly confused about the oil filter - is it the housing that is immediately at the front of the engine with a plastic top saying '25NM' ? It's not quite how I'm used to the oil filter. I haven't tried draining the oil yet - do I take it that that is not going to produce any suprises !

Draining the oil is ok but I think you have to fit a new sump plug each time you do

You have to undo that cap your looking at and withdraw it. The filter is a paper element under it.

Fuel filter is a straight swap then chug her over until she goes.
