Fabia se steering weight change?

Featured Replies

Hey :).

I drive a 2013 fabia se and i would like the steering to have a stiffer feel to it.

Its in the dealers tomorrow to have some warranty work done, so im thinking of asking them to change the settings on the computer (whichever program they use, im not sure lol).

However, im not too sure what to ask them for. Should i go for the vrs or polo gti setting?

I trust theyll know what i mean if i just walk in abd ask them exactly that? Haha. Just wanted to make sure it can be done too? Iv read alot about it but never on an SE model.

Any comments muchly appreciated.

Cheers guys :)

Dealer seemd to think this cant be done?

I thought they all ran on the same system just have different settings?

Muchly appreciated if someone could clear this up for me :).

Was the 'Dealer' you asked a Salesperson, Service Desk or an actual Technician?

Ask if they are able to set for 'Disability Setting',  which is more assistance,  which i thing they will be able to.

Then equally they can set for Less Assistance.

He was a useless salesman, but wrote it down on the sheet. Then when i collected the car he said 'the chief skoda technician had a look but says it cant be done'

Yeak thats what i thought after, but it was too late, id already left haha. Maybe he just dint want to do it because its in for warranty work and i wasnt paying? Im not sure.

Ill phone another dealer and ask? Reckon a vw dealer would do it? Theres one closer to me and its the same system isnt it?

On another note, i had a test drive in a 105bhp tsi while i was there. Brilliant engine that is isnt it!

Cheers

Just nipped to vw. He says he cant do it because he uses VAGCOM, but also i need to be careful because it messes with the way he airbags work.

LOL,

they must work part time at the Comedy Club,   Best keep the likes of him away from your car.

Because i am hopeless with the likes of setting & making changes with Vag-com i leave it to those that know.

Saves them having to sort what i mess up.

Maybe just do the same.

Someone local to you will help hopefully.

I know. Nobody seems to know what they can do with it.

Oo thats very interesting cheers mate. I to darent buy the software n plug it in myself, just incase i make a fluff up and lose some vital things haha.

Ill ask around some local garages and see if any of them have any idea.

Unless theres somebody on here that knows what theyre doing and lives in the derbyshire kind of area?

Cheers again. Much appreciated

Just rang up jbs performance specialist in chesterfield

Seem like nice guys there, says its no problem as its 'hydroelectric steering' and will take them less than 30 mins.

Atleast they know what they can do haha.

Cheers

There is discussion about this in the thread below. I think JBS meant electro hydraulic rather than hydro electric. The former relates to an electrically powered hydraulic pump and the latter to the generation of electricity using water, eg a dam and turbines.

I probably remembered it wrong hahaa. Pretty sure my fabia doesnt have a dam and turbines under the bonnet! Im just a plumber lol.

Iv already read through that thread. Its very informative :)

Thankyou

I changed mine today because I started getting slightly annoyed with parking lately too heavy etc - so I set mine to 10130 and see how I like it for the week.

These are the codes I saw on the VAGCOM at Channel 44 when I plugged my Sport.

10100 Normal power steering (for heavy vehicles)

10120 Sport steering (RS)

10130 Convenience - Greater power steering at slow driving speeds (when parking) for heavy vehicles

10140 Normal power steering (for light vehicles)

10150 Convenience - Greater power steering at slow driving speeds (when parking) for light vehicles

10160 Handicap -Greater power steering for the handicapped

I thought id replied to this sorry.

What setting was yours on before then?

Did you do that yourself? I guess its easier if you can. Id love to have a fiddle, but im too much of a wuss haha. Can see my changin some fuel injection values by accident haha

Mine was set to 101040 but since then I've upgraded to bigger rims and brakes so I needed a lighter steering wheel.

Ooh i see. Runnin some big wheels now then? Bet that does add abit more weight when parking doesnt it.

Itll be the 10120 that i want then :). Im no racer, obviously, its got 70bhp lol. N i take the bike when i want to go fast, I just find it abit light. Still got a nice feel to it, just needs abit more weight

Haven't tried option "20" but I guess it doesn't hurt trying it on for a few days.

It bugs me that there is no explanatory info regarding that option, all the rest are fine, I can make up my mind but what is "Sport" steering?

  • Author

I know what you mean.

As far as iv gathered, reading through many many different threads, its the steering setting that the VRS gets. So its stiffer than the normal fabia steering in order to give a greater feel at higher speeds and in the corners.

I havent seen anybody having issues with parking with this setting or anybody wanting it lighter, however i do not know if its progressive (gets stiffer the faster you go).

So i thought id give it a go :).

Cheers.

Went down to JBS in chesterfield today. Told them what i wanted n no problem at all. Had a laugh about the dealers 'airbag' claims with one of the guys there.

10 mins later he'd done it, no problem. So iv now got:

Vrs steering weight

Turned off selective locking

And turned on anti hijack

Cost me £30 which i was happy with.

Steering feels soo much better now. So much more feel to it and more sensitive at higher speeds, yet a much better weight to it aswel

Cheers for all your help :).
