Help with skoda octavia II 1.6 fsi - clutch issues maybe?

hey guys. you're speaking to a complete novice here. I mean, i don't even drive! 
My dad drives the car but he can't speak english brilliantly so there might be some issues with explaining here.

Basically he's saying the clutch is really soft, he has to pump it several times to enable him to change gear. and he feels like it's losing pressure. The clutch looks like it was changed a little while ago so he's mentioned something about a slave cylinder? 
He's just moved to the uk and i, as stated above, don't drive.. so how can i make sure i won't get completely lynched when i choose a service station? is there a list of recommended places i can put my postcode in or anything like that?
