Engine cuts out while driving!

Featured Replies

I have a big problem with my car. Bought it with 150.000 miles on board in Feb, worked fine until August when, while driving ,the engine stopped at traffic lights. It was taken to the garage but nothing wrong could be found. They started the engine with easy start and it worked fine for a few more weeks when it stopped again this time in a roundabout. Got it back to the garage where they changed the fuel filter( already changed in June when I serviced the car) and put a new battery that's nearly £300. A month ago it stopped again while driving and this time I took it to a different garage, they changed the fuel pump and battery and I spent another £600. It worked fine for 3 weeks and guess what... It happened again when driving( always happening on the 1st or 2nd gear). No faults came up when plugged to the computer. No one at the garage can tell me what is wrong and I'm getting very frustrated with all these money spent for nothing.

Anyone in similar situation?

What engine does it have?

Do you by any chance have a chip tuning box fitted?

It is a 2.0 TDI 140bhp.

Not aware of a chip tuning box being fitted and my mechanical knowledge is poor unfortunately....

You have the worst possible engine a car could have. Sorry to write it like that.

Ouch!

At least we now know it's not a spark or HT issue.  So it's likely to be something up with the fuel delivery.

Do you know what the garage scanned it with - was it a fault code reader, or proper diagnostics?

Has it run out of diesel?  Just wondering if it's a simple case of muck getting sucked around and causing temporary a blockage.  Might explain the fuel filter being changed again.

Gaz

There's a relay that controls the ECU power that can cause this problem with no (or random) faults logged. It's on the relay holder in the plenum chamber
