Insurance premium rise for accidents not your fault

Featured Replies

I don't know how insurance companies get away with this behavior in this day and age, if it were any othe industry it would be tightly regulated to prevent the unfairly treating the customers.

Thank you very much.

As I'll likely incur an increased premium for the next couple of years because of it (if I declare it), it's very tempting not to. But, as the ambulance chasers appear to easily be able to find out about accidents you've been involved in, I'm sure other insure companies can as well :(

And Richard, I can see why that's frustrating. I had been with admiral for a couple of years, but left purely because of the trouble i'd had with their multicar policy. Hope admiral pull their finger out and get it sorted for you.

Insurance is tightly regulated - just as much as the rest of the financial services industry actually.

Thanks.

When I tried to insure my Yeti with Prestige I said I had no fault claims, only a non-fault as Admiral said it would be dealt with like that as I was in the right and had the proof.

It was only a week later when Prestige ran a search that they told be Admiral were listing it as fault.

This resulted in an (aprox) 40% loading on the premium.  So I then had a choice of a £200 increase for something not my fault or a £200 cancellation fee on the policy.  Heaven! :wonder:

As I said, I've now found out Admiral are keeping it open for 12 months despite me clearly not at fault.

If I had my way I'd cancel all my policies (around £3,000 per year) stuck with Admiral and shift them to someone else but I'm now stuck until June when Admiral decide to change my non-fault claim to show for what it actually is...

My first cars insurance was £3500, then when i wanted to change my car to one of a lower insurance group (£1400 for a year if i had gone else where), they put it up to £3600 for the admin fee!

Although its never happened to me (yet, touch wood) I can see its a pain if you have video footage of the accident being someone elses fault, and yet despite that they still leave the case open, surely thats costing them more in admin time then its actually worth?

if its clearly someone else fault, it should be an open/shut case and you shouldnt have to pay out for someone else mistake

What's amazing is that you clearly are a customer with lots of cars, so they should be bending over backwards to make sure they keep your business. You may be stuck with them until June, but no doubt they'll probably lose your business after that.

Did you have ULR/Legal Expenses cover under the policy or as an add-on? You may be able to claim the premium increases as an uninsured loss. I've seen this happen.

I tried today, no chance unfortunately :(

Bit of an update! Good news! After some good old fashioned complaining, with phone calls and a letter, my insurance company have agreed to refund me the £82.68 extra they charged me on top of the original quote for the non fault incident to my name. Quite pleased.
