Can bus adapter - do I need it?

Featured Replies

I am replacing my Bolero radio with an after market gps unit. My fl octavia has not got maxi dot or active steering wheel

in the kit is a can bus adapter

2 questions -do I need it and where does it plug in (not on the unit!)?

Which kit is it?

You do need a special kit as you dont have a switched live currently

It should be part of the loom which goes into the cars loom.

Have a look at connects2's website and yoh can see their version.

That looks odd for a headunit, no preouts at all

1.) Yes, you need it as it controls many functions of the unit such as power on/off, back-light, steering wheel functions, etc.

2.) You can see the white connector coming out of the main wiring loom, this is where it (the Decoder) goes in:

Just an update hell66, yes there was a socket on the loom where the adapter slotted in - now have air con controls shown on the unit as well as doors open etc.

Two remaining problems, as you can see there is only one fakra scocket on the unit whilst the aerial has two - and it does not fit!

The other is that the new loom is so bulky I cannot fit the unit in properly. I will ask the garage to sort it when it goes in for its major service

you should be able to get a adapter for the aerial. Its called fakra

There isnt loads of room but I seriously doubt skoda or anyone for that matter will take out and refit an aftermarket unit as part of the service. It just requires a lot of fiddling

As suggested above by Ryan, you probably need this Fakra Adaptor

And as for the space, there is just enough space in one spot to shove all the wires in and fit in the HU perfectly. For me, the spot was bottom right corner, a little here and there, and the HU would not go in.
