ASR Light

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is the place to post this but I recently noted that the ASR light and exhaust management lights were both constantly on in my Skoda Octavia Mk II 2005 year; I had it checked this evening and the garage reset both via the ECU however the ASR light failed to go off.

Another check was conducted and the garage found that the Crankshaft Position Sensor was malfunctioning - the garage believes this may be the fault however from reading forums etc I can't see how the Camshaft Pos. Sensor can be linked to the ASR system?

The full error shows as:

16719 - Crankshaft Position Sensor (G28)

P0335 - 009 - Malfunction

Freeze Frame

RPM: 2944/min

Mass Air / Rev.: 185.3 mg/str

Bin: Bits: 00001000

0

RPM: 704/min

Mass Air / Rev.: 114.5 mg/str

Bin. Bits: 00000100

0

I was under the impression that if its the above sensor then I should have problems starting the car - not with the ASR?

Any idea's on this at all.

Am a newbie at this and have bugger all knowledge of the in's and out's of cars etc

As far as I know it's used by the engine management as part of the engine speed/injection timing monitoring.

It is checked against the ABS data to enable the ASR function, where engine rpm is reduced to reduce wheel spin.

I'm sure a more informed post will follow.

Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors are two different sensors.

If you had a faulty camshaft sensor then the car will be difficult to start once its warmed up.
