The alarm light on my door is always on

Featured Replies

Hi, today as I got out of my car I noticed the red light on the drivers door for the alarm was on. I have never noticed it being on before. The alarm works fine and the light flashes correctly when turned on.

Should it be on ?

Thanks

I noticed mine flashes if everything is okay, and if theres a door not shut properly remains lit constantly

Yes that one in the door with a car outline in red does stay on. Not noticed if it goes out when you lock the car. You press this if you intend to lock the car with someone in. Or a pet dog so as not to set the motion sensor part of the alarm off. (if it is that you are talking about)

No, the red light at the top of the door ( where years ago a plastic piece would be and you would pull up / push down to open and close door ).

Thanks any way.

Thats supposed to flash

It flashes when alarm on but it stays on when not in use.

If it's constantly lit it indicates a fault.

There's a TSB for a fault in the door, requires a resistor iirc

Can you get someone to do a VCDS scan for you?

The light was on when I was driving home. When I got home I had to sort out some wind damage so I didn't lock the car up, 20 mins I returned to my car and the light was off but when I opened the door the light came on.

My dad reminded me just now back in March I had problems with my alarm not working, I took it to a local auto electrician and he found some of the connections in the wiring inside the drivers door were broken so he soldered these. He said at the time it's only a quick fix and may need new wiring soon.

I think this is the problem.

Going to dealers tomorrow.

the dealer confirmed it was the wiring harness in the drivers door was faulty . i'm going to buy the part online and get a auto electrician to do it.

the wiring loom was replaced this morning (£52 Labour and £85 for the loom inc. delivery, would have cost £175 in total at the dealer), but the the red light is still on, the auto electrician said it could be the door latch.

I was going to change the wiring loom soon anyhow but i'm annoyed that the dealer computer said it was the wiring loom at fault and it wasn't !

so i have start saving for a door latch now.

Might just need a VCDS error clear
