No alarm chirp.... fitted with aftermarket alarm.

Featured Replies

So the deal is, I had the car hooked up to a VCDS yesterday and wanted to get the alarm chirp enabled. But even when we checked the boxes and tested it, there was nothing to be heard.

Now the only thing I think may be an issue, is an aftermarket alarm that was fitted before I got the car. I know the battery can die and need replacing on the standard horn but something tells me I read about an aftermarket alarm interfering with car's factory horn, but for the life of me I can't find it!

Any ideas on what I could try?

Use output tests on VCDS to sound alarm see if the horn is working? If not replace. Very common for them to go around 6 years old.

Thanks for the reply! I've been talking to the company that fitted the alarm originally and because its an after market alarm they would have to enable the "beep" through their own software rather than the VCDS. Apparently the after market system over-rides the factory fitted unit?
