Featured Replies

Hi Gang

Been awhile, but 15,500 miles with the vRS and it needs new brakes. Toying with the idea of fitting AP or Bermbo.......any thoughts where to buy from and how much?

Cheers

Mike

Do Willwood do any for the skodas?

May be another option, I know on rovers they're cheaper for a start. AP disk prices are a bit silly.

How big you going to? 310? 330? What's the vRS have as std then? 282mm?

I have a hunt round, so what others have to offer, thought the size was +300mm.

BTW Just finished a removable rear strut brace design for the Rover 200 range. First batch went out yesterday to the MG club.

I dunno, I know 310 and 330 are common sizes. All way too big for my wallet mind, lol.

Got any links for the rear brace? Is it upper or lower rear?

  • Author

Upper, it bolts on top of the suspension turrets like an engine brace, but has quick relese fittings so you don't worry if you need to B&Q it!

On/Off in 10 secs, give me an e-mail and i will post a photo.

Off topic.

Alright Mike long time no see. Did the rear fabia one take off. Still got it fitted. Might take it off to see if I notice any difference.

If your having overheating problems then I recommend as many other do on here Ferodo DS2500 pads. Expensive at

Can't say i know anywhere round us. How about JBS over in chesterfield or Awesome GTI?

Merseyspeed would probably be able to get them but you'd have to find someone to fit them.

If you want to go Big at a good price then try Ian Godney at Godspeed, He did Ap 4 ots with 335x32 discs for my 4x4 & has since squeezed AP 6 pots with 335x32 discs behind Standard Octy RS wheels. Looks the Business, I can vouch the 4 pots are phenominal, you will only need 6's for track work with slicks but they do look the business.

I also believe the AP 4 pots have somewhat larger pads than the Brembos so you get more Pad-Disc Contact

Link to Ians site, Best to e-mail him as hes hard to get hold of on the phone, he has a lot of Automated kit in the Workshop & tends to answer e-mails while the machines are doing the work !!

Thanks Guys, I think i try the linings first. Fab, where did you get your Freodos?

Mike

Hi

Would imagine it is the 312mm brakes on the Octavia.

You could go for the Brembo 4 pots.

They have just had a dramatic increase in price.

But still ok for something like those.

I am at home now but if you want to pm me I could get you a price when I get back to work.

You have a PM.

Try www.raldes.co.uk for the brakes. They're very well priced. I had a quick look... they have loads of willwoods there.

In fact they have loads of stuff there... strut braces for example are about

Got the pads from Merseyspeed for

I fitted my Brembo GT Junior kit myself, wasn't hard at all. Measured everything up before hand, to calculate the spacers I needed (as I used the 17" spiders), 10mm gave me sufficient space. As for fitting though, just like fitting a set of brakes to any car as you get everything you need (with the exception of brake fluid) in the box.

This is a picture when I changed the discs a couple of months ago.

Skoda10.jpg

standard discs are 311mm and Ferodo DS2500 pads apparently work very well with standard discs so i'd give them ago before you chuck a wad at a big brake conversion.

Very nice!!!

Standards are 312mm

Standards are 312mm

Standard disks are 312mm on the VRS?

My god. The parents derv has 262s and that seems to stop well... 312 must be stupidly good. Cant imagine why you need to upgrade!

Try a set of EBC redstuff pads, they're apparently very good once warmed up a bit. Greenstuff are also good, but not quite so for track use.
