DOOR LOCK QUERY - please dont make me trawl the manual!

Featured Replies

Hi  All,

still getting used to my Fabia VRS which i collected last week -  Can anyone tell me why the front near side door doesn't open using the external handle? I am having to release it by using the interior handle.   Am i doing something wrong with the remote fob?

Thanks In anticipation,

Paul.

Hi Paul, one press on the remote key fob opens the drivers door only, two presses are required to open all doors. Are your rear doors remaining locked as well? You can have the coding changed so that one press opens all doors. Hope this helps.

Hi,  Thanks for this, I think that may be the anwser! I was a bit confused with pressing the key fob twice due to the 'Safelock' system.

Cheers,

Paul.

You can ask the dealer to change this to one press unlocks all doors and also when you remove key from ignition all doors unlock if this helps

Sounds like a good idea - i'll get the dealer to do the necessary.

You do not need to open the locked doors using the internal handle.

There is a switch in front of the gear stick, if you are in the car and the other doors are locked.

Ask a VCDS owner to do it, probably cheaper...

Thanks George, it's not so much about whether i open the door with the handle or the switch but rather why i was having to do it in the first place. I think i have been on autopilot thinking i still had my old car with its' 'one' click key fob!

Cheers.

Paul.

Personally i like 2 clicks to un-lock all the doors and boot,

it just seems natural when you want them all open,

and if near the car and not locking it again, you know its just the drivers door unlocked if you are wanting that.

I got the dealer to change it to one press lock/unlock instead of the 2 presses for all locks, why!

Much more natural to press once then any door can be opened.

The dealer never charged me anything to do it, they also activated the alarm chirp/beep as well.

If the car is new then really the dealer should have asked if there where any of these personal settings you wanted changed on PDI so they should do it for free. Mine didnt ask and then tried to charge me, 1 call to SUK and it was done for free ;-)

I changed mine to one click opening and also set the doors to all lock when above 10mph ( anti hijack) .. Easy to do. Whereabouts in Norfolk are you? I think during the 3 years I've had mine I have seen 2 others locally.

Mine didn't ask me at the time, the salesman just said that it's one press for driver's door and 2 presses for all doors.

When I asked them to change it they said no problem and never tried to charge me, they even tried to activate the cornering fog lights for me but this can't be done on the Fabia.

You're right though jonro2009, it should be a no cost option to be able to set VCDS parameters prior to delivery/hand over.

Same here. They also activated the chirp/beep too, though I later asked for it to be removed as leaving for work at 5am probably wasn't very neighbour-friendly.

I also found having to press the fob twice to unlock all the doors a bit unnatural.

Just outside of Norwich, what about you?

Weather beaten sheringham. Hope you have more luck with yours than I've had with mine. I've had enough, trading in in the new year back to the Octavia. Two years ownership new engine, new battery and just had a new radiator. I don't think I can fund it  when out of warranty. Still using oil on the new engine as well but nothing like what it was on the original engine.

Ouch! I,ll see how it goes but have taken out a 5 year warranty just in case.

Good plan.

Were you parked in the Colegate car park in the city yesterday?

No, must be at least two candy white vRS's in Norwich!

Everyhting has been said above I think,

But one thing to be aware of when doing the double click,  and messing about hitting all the fob buttons...

It is possible to open the windows with the Fob as well. (Holding open down will do this) I hadnt seen it befor so it caught me out a few times.

When I was new to the car I got back to it and the windows where open enough for a scally to get a hand in!
