What Head Unit to I have?

Featured Replies

Hello

Following on from my previous thread about mp3/cd changers (and thanks to Stu for helping me out there), I have spoken to a couple of car audio shops who both tell me I need to confirm the model of head unit that I have in the car. They say I have to pull the head unit out and find out. Unfortunately I don't have the tools and I couldn't find the info in the manual.

I have an Octavia 02 Elegance Estate TDi. One of the chaps I spoke to said it was probably a Grundig MS 502. Can anyone confirm? It says 'Skoda' on it and matches the one as described in the Skoda manual I have for it...

Thanks in advance :-)

I thought skoda dealt with blaupunkt???

Yep, the Symphony is a Grundig.

Not sure why it makes a difference what headunit you have though unless you want to keep your cd changer?

What were you asking?

The cd changer was missing when I bought the car 2 weeks ago.

It was the chappie at Sextons who was asking me what the exact model was. He seemed to think it could be one of 3 models...

Anyway, I've since found another company (also in Swindon) who will supply and fit a Sony CDX-T70MX for

However, you could get a better headunit and CD changer package for a lot less than

Yes indeedy!

Thing is though, that I want to be able to play mp3s so the choice for that is either a new head unit or mp3/cd changer in the boot. I didn't want a new head unit because I don't want to draw attention to it (and can't be bothered with the hassle of removing/hiding it). I have to park the car in a public car park on a daily basis. This was similar to the reason I bought a Skoda in the first place i.e. understated quality.

However, you could argue that if I bought a new mp3 head unit and then it got nicked, the total cost of a new one and new window would still be less than
