  1. Thanks trundlenuet. Your link didn't work. I found the post here though. It sounds tricky. I expect I'll end up getting a dealer quote. I may try to at least have a look to see what's wrong though. The local car mechanic said it wasn't the sort of job he could do. Apart from DIY or a skoda dealer, is there anyone else that could do this sort of job?
  2. Just wondered if you ever got this fixed? I have this problem.
  3. It's been 2 years and my back is starting to hurt! Ok, not that much, but it would be nice to get the lumbar support fixed one day. I daren't take it to a Skoda garage as they'd probably charge more than the car is worth. Anyone got any ideas? Anyone want to come round my house (near Swindon) and fix it!!??
  4. Could be trapped air. There is a small air release button just where you stick the fuel nozzle in.
  5. Useful for me too. Not that I'm going to let it get that low again. I generally drive around 55 mpg so it probably represents about a gallon of diesel.
  6. update: cheeze was right - there was loads of air trapped. I wish I tried this first though. Instead I ran the car dry thinking that once I'd emptied the tank then the fuel gauge would correct itself. I did about 50 miles whilst the trip computer said 0 miles left b4 running out. Emptied the emergency 5 litre can into the tank but it wouldn't start. Called out a breakdown truck who put 10 more litres in but still wouldn't start. Eventually he found the fuel filter chamber was completely dry and poured fuel into that. That finally got it going much to my relief. Moral of the story: listen to cheezemonkai and don't run out of diesel, even if you've got some spare in the boot.
  7. I'll give that a try cheeze, thanks. My feeling is that it's likely to be a calibration error, so when it reaches empty it's not really, rather than an actual drop in capacity of the tank by 1/8th.
  8. When I fill up, the needle only goes to 7/8 of full. I've tried really hard to fill the tank but I can't get the needle any higher. Can anyone help? car is 02 octy elegance estate
  9. Luckily it seems to have gone away for the time being. It was ok Sunday and today (Monday) so fingers crossed. I guess if it gets worse then I'll have to take it to a Skoda garage and ask them to check the MAF and hope it doesn't cost too much. By the way your links didn't work octywagon.
  10. A cheaper and possibly simpler option is a Yamada 6700. I bought one a year ago and since then I know about 5 other people that have bought one following my recommendation. They are about £40 new. Doesn't play games though :-(
  11. Thanks for the info fordfan. I'll check again next time it happens to see if a fault has been logged, to make sure. I'm a bit of a novice; do have any idea how I would take VAG-COM readings to check whether there is a problem with the MAF or not, apart from running the 'auto-scan' next time it goes into limp mode? I've also no idea how to take out the MAF. Aren't there likely to be side effects to doing this, otherwise what good is the MAF in the first place (not that I've any idea what it does)? Thanks in advance :-)
