Hard/Soft Paint

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Tried to spy this on a search with no joy.

So.......my basic knowledge tells me Jap car paint is generally seen as being softer (in polishing terms easier to correct).  German paint Merc, BMW, Audi is generally seen as being harder, some with ceramic type clear coats (in polishing terms harder to correct.)

What are peoples experience of Skoda (Czech) Paint?

I have a 2010 Rallye Green Mk2 Skoda Fabia and have never put a DA or rotary to it only ever using hand polishing.  It is not an easy paint job to spot imperfections, RDS and Swirls on using only the naked eye and not having a machine I currently own neither a paint depth gauge nor a light gun but may purchase both soon.

I am soon going to be trialling some new hand polishes, some which work more from abrasives and some which are lighter on abrasives and use more chemical cleaning.

Just as a frame of reference can anyone definitively say how Skoda Paint stacks up against German/Japanese paint stereotypes?

In particular my Rallye Green.

Thanks

Sparkly

I would say mixed :) not as user friendly a community as Briskie, but preferable to say SCN in that it contains useful information and a good number of very helpful knowledgeable people.  I think it suffers for having a huge membership.  Currently trialling the Autobrite forum, as a supplier they seem really happy to have close contact with the customers (naturally) mostly on their own products, but I'm enjoying getting info straight from the horses mouth (people who spec/formulate the products)

Its Medium Hard/Intermediate paint

BTW....I have a Paint Gauge and Sun lamp...of course

Chris, you really are a mine of information.

I notice that VW and Skoda have different hardnesses <(is that even a word!). Odd that don't you think?

Regards

Mike.

TBH Mike, in my experience, there's very little in it

BMW paint....now that's a different matter!!

Chris, what Sun Lamp do you use?

I made my own from an old cordless drill. Just remove the motor and replace with a 12v Spotlight bulb

I also have a single 500W flood light and a twin 500w spotlight with stand
