Windscreen wipers

Featured Replies

I really shouldn't have to post this question but I'm confused.

What size wipers should I be ordering on a 2005 (54) Superb TDI 130hp Comfort spec?

Reason I ask is that I've ordered two sets now and they've both had to go back – the first for wrong fitment (retro fit needs umbrella hook), the second because drivers side wiper was 21" and doesn't fit? In both instances I followed the online guide to which wipers fit my vehicle.

I'm now certain they should be 20" and 21" but how many variations are there as I've seen 19" and 23" the same year car???

Any advice welcome

Dunno bout the size, but i used Bosh A925S Aerotwin for 3 years with no issues. They are different size, the individual wipers, so you need to compare to the currently fitted ones and replace 1:1.

Mine are both 53cm / 21 inches.  The driver's side has a spoiler.

The correct wiper kit for my Model Year '05 Superb is Bosch 926S (2 blades). These are both 21" Aero type, but the two blades have the attaching bracket differently positioned. Bosch thoughtfully provide a diagram to indicate which blade is for the driver's side - covered by the bracket when fitted.

A Google search for Bosch 926S enables them to be bought online for about £16.

Thanks folks.

It's official – I'm an idiot

The wipers were the correct size – I was just trying to fit them in a rush and wasn't engaging my brain  :wall:

Just a warning to those thinking of buying the Bosch Aero 926S blades.  They don't fit what now seem to be the old-fashioned hook type wiper arms on my 2005 Superb 1.

I had to send them back and replace them with two Bosch Aero AR21U blades,  Aero types that will retrofit on to the hook arms.

Best price I could find is currently £9.72 each, part No. 485778210 at eurocarparts and also carparts4less.

I believe the some of the later Superbs were fitted with conventional blades using hook fitting arms. My MY '05 chassis was fitted with the dedicated Bosch 926S aero blades from new, together with the pin fitting arms.

The blades work well as long as the arm pin is parallel to the screen surface in mid stroke. I had to twist one arm slightly to achieve this when I purchased my Superb. The aero blades are not good in icy conditions when the low temperatures make the rubber too stiff to wipe properly - even on an ice-free screen. The rubber is stiffer than is ideal for screen wiping because the design does not use a metal frame. The blades last well.

These changes were probably instigated by pedestrian injury requirements and the blades sold on looks...

Roto, have you ever put your wipers on with the bonnet up?  I swapped my hook arms to aero arms, and the drivers side will catch on the edge of the bonnet if the bonnet is up.  I think this flaw is why they changed to a hook arm which is correct so as not to catch on the bonnet.  It is annoying as it rags the paint.

The OE aero wipers will clear the bonnet when raised - the MOT tester tried this for me...

Remember the spindle bearings have to be kept oiled on these cars as the idiots used sintered iron bearing bushes instead of bronze. Unless frequently oiled, they rust solid to the shafts. As 2-yearly maintenance, remove the arms and then the circlips on the shafts. Lift off the pathetic O ring seal and the shaft will drop into the plenum chamber - not right in, but far enough for you to properly oil the bearings.

Before stopping for a beer, grease the front suspension pinch bolts on the upper arms and track rod ends as well. Usual VAG poor design problem - steel on steel in a wet area.
