High milage 1.2tsi

Featured Replies

Right i was just wondering has anyone on here got a high milage 1.2tsi. My feelings are that these small engines may not be up to the job as i have heard of a good few failures. Would love to hear what mileage is on your 1.2tsi. My 2011 has 19k

If you think there is a possibility of failure then best put a Skoda Extended Warranty on the car when it is going out of the Original 3 year Warranty.

I have not heard of many failures of 1.2 TSI's.

I would hope with proper servicing and maintenance that the engine will be good for many years and miles.

What is your one, 86 or 105 ps?

Id imagine the 86 version is less stressed than the 105, so likely to last longer.

86 bhp

I would think they are going to be fine.

Personally i imagine some 86ps engines are more stressed than 105 ps ones where someone drives it giving it full beans to get 105ps performance.

UK National speed limits and i doubt either are being given that hard a life.

My 67bhp 1.1 non turbo is hammered to death at every opportunity and thrives on it.

Lots of small capacity Turbo engines in cars now, and built to last,  or we hope so anyway.

1.0 litre, Fiestas & Focus among many others.

george

Mine is of June 2010 and has 52.100 Km on clock. A slight oil consumption since new ( about 500ml every 6.000 or 7.000Km) and sometimes it rattles on cold starts.

Everything i hear about this engine is positive & i absolutely love it....it just feels like a good strong engine & seems to have been in use for a few years now instead of being changed by skoda which would set alarm bells ringing.

im not sure about the turbo, actually i fully expect that ill need a new one after 100k miles but then it must be working hard on the small engine,  but but the engine itself i hope will last forever.

I doubt that the 1.2 tsi Montes are the type of cars to get galactic mileage any time soon so i suppose only time will tell but i have a good feeling about them.

Donny, I've seen one with 78,000miles on the clock and it had not needed anything more than normal servicing. Its a strong engine!

1.2tsi 86ps. October 2012 with 16500 miles - so far no problems - pulls nice and strong from 2k-3krpm. Understand it is not a high pressure turbo.

Son's 1.2 tsi Octavia is coming up to 40k miles. 2 years old on variable servicing. I've heard the chain rattle on cold start up once - I think around 15k. As I don't have regular access to to witness cold starts, I don't know if this happens often, but I must admit it worries me.

Son not mechanically minded so I can't get any reliable feedback.

My Fabia 1.2 TSI 85BHP engine failed with "loss of compression" after 50000 miles. Quite a bit of motorway driving, but rarely above limit or high revs. Only solution suggested by Skoda - get another engine. Out of warranty, this will cost me a lot. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/298327-fabia-12-tsi-motor-failure/

Anyone know how long these engines have existed for????, im guessing 5 years?

So far not many high mileage examples.

For the record mine has just over 2k on the clock & is fine :)

Since 2010 I think.

May I ask something? Are 1.2 Tsi engines different to 1.2 TFSI engines? Because in the reading above 1.2TFSI engines are coded as CBZA and CBZB, like mine engine (CBZB) which is an 1.2Tsi one, or it is just a naming to make difference between Skoda and Audi?

Did I read correctly ? Air filter replacement every 90.000Km and fuel filter replacement lifetime ?

***OFF TOPIC Starts***

Also states timing gear chain replacement interval and timing chain tensioning system are lifetime and when this chain rattles they do not want to replace her on their cost even in cars having full service history in dealership's service centers when car is out of warranty?

In that case...

Can someone define what lifetime means ? (rhetorical question)

It would be nice if you did not generalise and told us of the 'good few failures' in detail.

I would just like to say that if what you are inferring is true there will be meltdown within the VAG group considering the number of different models this engine is used in.

Perhaps you could let us know how many you know of and what exactly was the problem with each one. That way we can all really begin to worry and off load our cars pronto so as not to encounter the curse. :giggle:

Yes tfsi is the same as tsi, I think its just an Audi or USA thing.

Lifetime means until the engine dies!  :notme:  :nerd:

More accurately it should mean its a part not requiring routine service or maintenance.

Air filter interval is indeed 90,000 km and fuel filters are specified as lifelong items in all vag petrol cars.

In a court of law (in the UK at least) , the use of such a phrase in the brochure, manual or servicing/training documentation would, i think, be sufficient to win a claim for faulty manufactured goods.

Anyone who has suffered chain failure would do well to point this out to Skoda customer service as well as their dealer.

stratosg,

TSi/TFSI  same thing, it is  just that Audi charge more, & lots more for selling a 'F'.  Thats a Flying 'F'

Thank you very much Xman.

I do realise that my English are poor. I am more than convinced and sure that Skoda's managers cannot understand a word in English. Dear Xman, even my English are poor, I do know what lifelong means. I asked for the 'Lifetime' term's definition just in case there is someone from VAG headquarters reading this thread or Briskoda in general. As I wrote before my Skoda dealer informed me on a conversation we have over the phone, that I might need a timing chain replacement and that I would have to pay for because my car is out of warranty and maybe Skoda will give me a reduced price. He told me that he had to "listen" to that rattle before giving me a final diagnosis, and I think that makes him at least fair and honest.

But in case that indeed I will have replace the chain and have to pay, that stands against the 'Lifetime' terms or I am at least idiot, or Skoda thinks I am a complete idiot.

As about fuel filter. It has been already changed once as a regular service operation. That stands too again against "Lifetime", or none of us knows or understands what "Lifetime" means.

As about air filter. It hasn't been replaced because it was found "clean" during service inspection and not because of the 90.000Km directive that is stated at the above SSP.

Thank you very much too George. But I think that they will claim that there is a difference and the document does not refer to my 1.2Tsi (and not TFSi) CBZB engine. Like a word play. I wish I could find the Skoda's SSP for the 1.2Tsi

It seems this group of Romanians are unhappy with their 1.2 tsi engines.

https://www.facebook.com/skoda/posts/394900147269119

They are ABSOLUTELY right.

I have a colleague of mine who drives a 2006 VW Golf V 1.4Tsi Gt with 102.000Km on clock and a month ago had his engine replaced with a brand new engine totally free of charge. The engine had a cracked cylinder, or piston (I cannot recall what exactly it was right now) and they (VW) told him that this was not caused by his driving attitude but it was a defect of the engine. His car of course was out of warranty. His extended warranty had expired back in 2010.

I am not a happy Skoda owner anymore. And I am not happy because of Skoda's attitude against their production line defects and not because of defect itself. I feel that I am deceived when I have to pay for something that was faultly since its birth.

I wish you could ask my collegues at work what was my opinion about Skoda and how many of them I advised to buy one, and how many of them laughed at me when I decided to go for a third Skoda. I will never advise anymore, anyone of my friends, colleagues, relatives to buy a Skoda. Not because Skodas are bad cars, not because I don't love Skoda but just because Skoda is clueless what Customer Care is or what recognition of liability means and as it seems from readings in different forums they are un-willing to take the responsibility of their production defects. Our washing machine has a 10 years warranty for it's direct drive motor. That means that they do believe in their product.

And to be fair, all the above are not refered to any Skoda Dealer worldwide. They do what the Company tells them to do. I think they do their best but they are unable to act against the company's policy, directives and outlines. All the above are for Skoda policy planners at the headquarters.

1.4 TFsI is the twin charger isn't it? I've heard of those having trouble, but not the 1.2.

My dad has a 1.2 TSI, just in for second inspection. Had something changed, that wasn't a recall, but a service update, I think he said wiring loom. He hasn't mentioned anything else about suspicions over the chain etc.

if the 1.4 twincharger is the worst , mate, I have done 50k in my first fabia vRS, and 13k in my current one (63,000 miles!) without any issues AT ALL, so I'm sure the 1.2 will be fine ;) in the past I've done 150,000 miles in a lancia! lol....

Twincharger are called,  1.4 TSI for VW, Skoda & Seat the same engine in the Audi A1, is called a TFSI 185 ps, (same engine different MAP)

there are, 1.4 TSI Seat, Skoda ,VW & called 1.4 TFI that are just Turbos, 105- 122- 140 ps etc.

there are 1.2 TSI Seat, VW, Skoda & 1.2 TFSI Audi , 86- 105 ps etc
