If so, then that would be a bit closer to reality.

I have no idea who won it any year. Every magazine has its own different car of the year, and each will pick a different car.

The Leaf won 2011, Ampera 2012, Golf 2013, and now they are voting (taking backhanders) for the 2014 car.
