Hello everyone, i have a Fabia VRS, everytime i turn the ignition onto the first Click i hear a high pitch whirring sound for about a second that comes from the vicinity of the back of the car.

Firstly,anybody know what this is?

Secondly, over the last couple of days the sound has changed to a low hum that also lasts for about a second. Anyone know why it has changed and is it anything to worry about.

Car seems no different to drive thankfully! :confused:

It could be the fuel pump priming the system, but this is more like a high pressure "squirting" sound. It happens if the fuel tank is half full or below.

My Fabia was the same ... I was led to believe it was just the fuel pump priming the system (and warming the fuel?). Nothing to worry about

It now amazes me what sounds worry people in their Fabias. Maybe they should drive a Mk2 Golf you hear every grinding, graunching, squealing or any other noises for that matter without any sound deadening to get in the way

The other noise you might hear when you turn the key is from the front - its the power steering pump running up.
