I have now had my laptop with VCDS software hooked up to two different but very similar cars and noticed how different they were ...

 

Two 2014 FL Superb Estates, exactly the same options apart from mine being a 1.8 TSI DSG7 and my colleagues a 170 bhp TDI DSG6. And the color differ as well ... ;-)

 

I made some changes to my rear electric opening and closing functionality as well as silencing the remote opening beep and I could only opt for Activate or Inactivate the "volume" during remote operation but when I looked at my colleagues possibilities it was possible to chose the beep for both opening and closing separately for each of the three buttons available, i.e. center console, key fob and buttons in the door. He had many more options in his module than I have in mine ... Is this normal? Any idea to why?

Presumably different versions of the BCM are fitted. VCDS will tell you the part numbers for each one. Are they the same model year?

They nay be the same calendar year but different model years. Mine was registered in 2006 but is a 2007 MY. I think it normally changes around October time.

Yours may be MY13 and his MY14. The VIN contains the information about the MY and there are decoders online which will help you.

Hi, mine came back with the following info ... so it seem to be a 2014 and his is built a couple of months later ...

The entered VIN is valid!

For whatever reason it would appear that the controllers are different. Presumably they are both the same trim level with no extra options?

Hmm, for some reason I have forgotten to ask if he has the removable hitch package or not ... I have that on mine. Could be the difference ...??? Too late now to ask, going to bed ...

They will both be MY14 cars as the change is in around June/July IIRC.

 

You really need to check the part number of the controller as his may be a newer version.
