Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Having now had my air con and parking sensors sorted the car obviously is not happy. For the first time since owning the car I went to use the cruise control and it doesn't work!

Now unless I'm using it wrong, are there supposed to be warning light(s) to show its even active?? And can anyone advise of what checks I can make, I do have VCDS.

Cheers

Steve

There is an orange warning light on dash when cruise is engaged.

If its not working it will probably be the switch. Have a search on here but it is common for the switch to need the contacts cleaning.

VCDS should report any faults with it.

If its an early Octavia (pre-2007 I think) then there may not be a light on the dashboard when active.

As above, search the net for threads on cleaning the contacts as there is an easy to follow walk through with lots of pictures.

Thanks for the replies, its an MY08 so i'll search for the above.

Steve

My MY08 has the warning light :hi:

He's right. It does.

Mine has a green light at the top of the dash when activated.

My 07 has an amber CC light.

Stalk switches get dirty and can stop it working. Very easy fix (dealer will quite £70 for a new stalk) split the stalk with something that won't mark the plastic.

Pop out the little circuit board.

Get some contact cleaner and a cotton bud and give the contacts a wipe. Pop it back in and Bob's your mothers brother.

Took me about 15min to do it and I'm a kack handed fool when it comes to car mechanics.

Cheers guys just been out and carried out said fix, but no joy! Plugged my VCDS in and..............no sodding faults found!

So went for a short drive with it still plugged in so I could get up to a decent a speed and using measuring blocks I could see it recognising on/off via main switch, also showing Accel when using top switch but lower switch showed Delay when pressed?? No tell tale light on dash throughout.

So I'll have to look further now as it appears the switch is working OK

Any thoughts appreciated :-)

One of the controllers not coded properly?

Can you post a scan of your vehicle to look at?

I have one from a week ago, nothing has been changed and cruise hasn't been used until todays attempt so probably U/S since I got the car.

Do ignore tyre pressure and radio faults they have been sorted now.

KB, many thanks for your help will get to grips with it tomorrow :-)

Cruise won't work if there is a fault with the clutch or brake pedal switches (which won't always trigger a dtc). you can check if they're activating properly in the measuring blocks.. can't remember off the top of my head which group, one of the lower numbers 006 or 007 maybe.

Thanks toph I'll have another VCDS session tomorrow

Is it switched on?

Little toggle switch on top of stalk.

Following with interest. Mine doesn't work either, despite a very thorough clean of the stalk switches. Don't have vcds myself, recently kindly had a scan and clear many thanks to andyvee on here. Initially it was showing the "improbable signal" fault, though after clearing faults this one didn't return (although the car hadn't been driven in between clearing and the subsequent scans) so I'm not sure if that has come back or not. Brake lights work fine, clutch switch looks visibly like it is engaging the pedal ok, forgot to ask to check those measuring blocks when I was with Andy. Have quite a few outstanding errors due to my canbus being in single wire mode though so I'm trying to get to the bottom of that before worrying about the cc too much

Update- Recoded engine-01 as mine wasn't correct however still no joy. Steering wheel-16 also has correct coding.

Checked switch again, still shows system being turned on/off and accel button shows correct but still res/- button shows Delay when pushed??

Is the system fused or is it paired with something else, as it's the only area I haven't checked??

did you check the clutch and brake pedal switch?

Brake switch working fine but I didn't spot the group with clutch switch in it so this needs checked also.

By checking I mean it said not operating then operating and a slight press put the brake lights on.

Any update?

Yeah Steve95, all works fine now. My fault, I thought I would see the tell tale light when stationary so right after recoding I did this no joy (it was getting late by this time)

Set off to work the following morning and bingo clicked switch to on, orange light came on, bottom rocker button pressed, away it went :-)

Biggest head scratcher is why someone changed the coding before I bought it, why disable a function like that when obviously you can just the set the switch  to OFF!!!!

Ah thanks for that, so I might just need to get my module recoded then, cheers for posting back :-)

I had the same on a company car.. the cable in the cruise stalk breaks down over time

Swap the stalk over for a new one .. job done

Faults else where are much less common

Just to confirm I finally sourced a new stalk, swapped it over yesterday and problem solved, all works fine with just the new stalk required.

Point of note, on mine even though cruise now fully works, there is no light or symbol on the dash whatsoever to indicate that it is switched on / engaged etc.
