Oil weep near the oil cooler

Featured Replies

My LHD 2006 Octavia2 1.9 tdi has been clean as a whistle underneath up to this oil and filter change. Now it is mucky and it seems to be centred around the oil cooler. I note that there is a plastic cap under the cooler, similar to the oil-filter cap. Don't think this is to bleme. Anyone know why this cap is required? Has anyone had oil leaks in this area and found the cause? It is not fast enough to show with the engine running.  I don't see an electrical conduit nearby - as reported in previous posts. No oil in the water - but that would indicate an interior leak.

that is to fix the cooler to the filter housing with "seal" one side and an o-ring the other    easy to fix if messy  don't think its a common problem tho'    clean up and keep an eye on it

I seem to have got half an answer. is the top half missing?

As far as I am aware the oil coolers can fail on the 1.9TDI also the intercoolers in the bottom corner of the front bumper can too.

filter housing--seal---oil cooler---o-ring ---bottom cap-----seems straight forward !!

Thank you. I think I have got the gist now. The whole thing bolts to the block, I suppose. Presumably there is a gasket there.

Yes I should get in my pit and wash the whole thing clean and then keep observing to get a proper diagnosis. 72year old bones don't like the pit so much now!

cold concrete really gets to you---us geriatrics must stick together  :-)
