Automatic main beam under 60km/h

Featured Replies

Hi everyone and merry Christmas

My dad recently got the new Octavia, 1.8 4x4 with DSG

The car also have the optional for "automatic main beam" which is really cool BUT the lack is that it works only when you are over 60km/h

I'm planning to get a VCSD but still thinking if it's worth (I have my father's old Octavia and my brother has a VW so we can do lot of mods..), I would like to know if it's possible to code the system via VCSD to make the auto main beam available under 60km/h

Also, it would be good to have this kind of option:

With light switch in the AUTO position the system works normally (over 60km/h)

If the light switch is engaged to the low beam position the system works also under 60km/h

This way I'll be able to turn the "under-60km/h" on/off depending on the street (like off for urban drive, on for mountain).

Not sure it can be done as you describe, but the lower threshold can be adjusted with VCDS.

Thanks, if it s possible to lower the threshold is a good starting point and another mod to add to my VCDS list hehe!

If it is like the older version, then you can adjust the speed threshold

It will only work while in AUTO

Yep, that's my take on it as well.

I'm going to lower mine to see what happens .....

Thanks

where can i buy a VCDS so i can fix all these things my self, i have tree cars. Octavia, Seat Altea and Vw Polo. so i could use it on all tree cars. is it just software and a cable for my laptop. or what???

For Danish customers, here:

http://shop.netech.dk/

Despite being a danish shop I don't think you're getting ripped off too badly compared to buying one from abroad.

There is also a VCDS owners map on the vagcars.dk forum ;)

Full list of distributors here:

My understanding of the beam patterns is that they are designed to enhance safety by providing the optimum spread pattern at specific speeds. Before messing with this it would be worth checking that there are no unintended consequences such as increased blinding of oncoming traffic.  .

UP! Any news from Andyvee?

It does work, I'm setting mine back to standard though as don't need it to be enabled at a slower speed

Can you supply coding info with VCDS

Yes it works.

Mine is set at 50 KM/h

Doing it mine this weekend. Damn annoying that it only works from 60 km 50 km. Will be much better

Where is the obd connector located. Cant find it.

I would question if you actually need main beam coming on automatically at speeds lower than 60kmh, the Xenons are bright enough!

Unfortunately Xenons are extra equipment here in Denmark, they cost £2014 which is why almost no one has it.

Ok, makes sense then
