Went to a Skoda dealer today with the Mother to look at potentially swapping her Octavia vRS LE for a Monte Carlo..

So after testing the Fabia we went in to talk figures, and were shocked to hear that for a 2009 vRS Limited Edition with 60k on it, the dealer was only prepared to offer £5700. And was adamant he could not move from this figure.. Now I know part ex is always below trade value, and the paint has a few nicks on it (although its better than the Fabia I bought 2 years ago from the same salesman, and he wasn't budging much on that either..)

Eventually after seeing our profound shock at the offer he moved up to £6200, although at this point I think a full tank of fuel and floor-mats would have been well out of the question so eventually led to us walking out..

Now is it just me or does that price strike anyone else of being somewhat of a joke..?

Edit: vRS in question is 2.0 TDi CR 170

Is the LE a diesel or petrol?

Diesel, which I would have though holds it's value better..?

Not great is it? :wonder:

They'll want to retail it around £1,000 more to allow for costs and a bit of profit unless they are taking the pee.

What are they selling for, over £7,500 ?

There are a number of websites where you can get a valuation on your moms car for free and places like autotrader to see what they are selling for (e.g. what car and webuyanycar.com) so I'd suggest you try some of these to see if the dealer was having a laugh. After you've done that is there another dealer you can try?

With some evidence of what it's worth you'll be in a better position to bargain with which ever dealer you choose to do business with. As an option you could use webuyanycar or sell it privately and then one of the online companies like carfile to buy through instead.

The only TDi vRS Limited Edition I found near is in aberdeen being sold trade, for £10,500 with 44k miles on it.. Yet the salesman didn't think he'd make enough if he part ex'd it for a number starting with a 7..

I got £5,500 for my 2007 vRS PD170 (non-LE) with almost 70,000 miles on it 6 months ago through a Skoda main dealer against a used Superb they had in stock.

£6,200 sounds low to me.

Is the MkIII Octavia vRS now having a negative effect on MkII values?

Its bound to have

I'd had a look on parkers guide and had quick browse on autotrader before we went just to gauge what it was worth, both of which were pointing at around £9k dealer £8k sold privately and £7k part ex'd.. Even when I'd told him the 07 Fabia vRS he sold me was listed for more that what he was offering he still wasn't moving..

There's a couple of other dealers from the same franchise in the area we thought it may be interesting to try.. Although I'm not sure the Mother is too keen on parting with the Octavia anymore so she may just keep it abit longer until something comes along that takes her fancy, then sell privately..

So you're a repeat customer and he's offering you a poor deal. There's been a lot of talk about what deals Skoda will be offering after Jan 1st, 0% free servicing etc which might figure in your moms plans. The new car sales numbers tend to drop after the new year so you could get a better deal as dealers struggle to meet their targets. It might be your salesman/dealer had already done well during December so wasn't bothered. Were they (not Skoda) offering any deals on the Monty or was he trying to maximise his profit on both cars?

Might be worth trying another dealer just to put your moms mind at rest. If you make it clear you're a serious buyer and that you're looking for the best deal and see how things go from there.

Salesmen....don't you just hate 'em!

Did you get as far as discussing the screen price on the Fabia?

Remember it's the price to change that's important.

Let him give you below market value on the LE, just as long as the price of the Fabia is reduced accordingly.

He'll be trying his luck (expect a phone call in a few days), either that or the margin's on Monte's are already tight and he's worried about having £7K's worth of Octy vRS sat on his forcourt for months.
