I used a penknife to get most of the "chrome" off and then washed it with one of those dish scrubbers to clean off the rest. The lettering wasn't left with any scratch marks and TBH looks better in the flesh than in the photo

No offence, but is that the male equivalent of the suggestion in a worman's mag to clean telephone buttons with a cotton bud dipped in meths. Life's too short. Still, if you are happy with your achievement, who am I to detract from it?

Can't help wondering what your next little mod will be though... like painting each letter as rainbow ROYGBIV?

There was a method in my madness. I took the flasher unit apart because it started acting the b*ll*x. Contacts cleaned and works perfectly again, so I was on a bit of a roll. Now explain this cotton bud thing to me again.

OK, makes sense if you really did do the flasher unit first

Cotton buds have stayed around for about 50 years on the baby shelves despite the fact that you are never supposed to poke anything in your ears, so people must be using them for other uses - I know I do. Gotta use the proper Johnson's ones though since the cheapies fluffily disintegrate.
