Fabia mk1 vrs steering light issues

Featured Replies

Recently I've had problems with the EPAS on my fabia vrs 1.9tdi ASZ engine code if I leave it running for a length of time I.e at car meets with music playing lights on and heaters on the PAS light will come on and steering will go heavy and the lights will flicker and CD player will switch off then if I switch the car off to clear the fault the battery will be flat and won't start without a bump. I fitted a new alternator and fan belt about two month ago so doubt it could be that any help much appreciated thanks guys :)

Your alternator will not charge your battery while you are ticking over, therefore your battery will go flat quickly due to the load.

Never had the problem with any other car I've owned!

That's your answer. ^^^

A friend had the same with her 1.9 ATD engine. Car was damp throughout so left it idling all day with heaters on full. Result; flat battery.

Can someone give him another answer please, he doesn't like the one I gave him.

It's not that I don't like your answer it's I've never heard of this happening whilst an engine is running yes fair enough if I just had the ignition on maybe it's just a skoda thing. :/

It's a modern car thing, low tickovers mean lower emissions in traffic, to get a low tickover you have to have a very low engine load which means no alternator bulk charge.

also these cars have a clutch alternator pulley so only charge on power stroke of engine to raise effiency, dont forget whilst your idling your powering the electric pas which is the biggest single consumer on these cars

Not if the steering isn't being moved it isn't, I strongly suspect his idiotic stereo takes that honour, the PAS light is a symptom of the ECU shutting things down in order to conserve power.

I have one because I don't live with my mum so I can turn my music up loud in my own home if I like.

Since your stereo is killing your car and flattening your battery, I'd call that idiotic.

IIRC, you're the one that came in, gave the info " if I leave it running for a length of time I.e at car meets with music playing lights on and heaters on........" and got the correct answer to your question.  Name calling won't do anyone any favours and certainly won't help you the next time you have a question. Just sayin :)

This!

You can't come on here claiming to be playing loud music at car meets and then jump down the throat of the first person saying your stereo is killing your battery, and causing your issues.  This is my opinion too.

That is not how this forum works!

If you want to use so much 12V juice I recommend wiring in an auxiliiary battery, or three.  That's what all the top audiophiles do.
