Turns out I like the scent of a stripper

Hi Guys,

Just a mini-review of a new purchase of mine.

Chemical Guys - Stripper Scent Air Freshener and Odour Neutraliser.

As the weather has been rotten I decided to fulfil my detailing fetish by restocking my interior cleaning kit at cleanyourcar and as part of the shopping trip I picked up some Stripper Scent, as much out of curiosity as anything else.  This is a product that gets quite a bit of press on DW and other sites and always intrigued me.  I'm not a massive air freshener fan and have often proclaimed to prefer a clean non-smelling car to a fragranced one, the flip side of that being I have certain detailing products that make me smile just from their smell.

Well after a vac down of all the fabrics and a clean of the interior trims with AF Spritz I tentatively applied a couple of sprays of SS into the passenger footwell, and I have to say I am very impressed, the fragrance is strong at first but mellows quickly and a couple of sprays seem to give about 3 days duration at a level I imagine most people will be happy with and I expect that spraying in a few more areas will embed the scent a little more in the car for more duration with less frequent applications.  I also found that spraying in the footwells meant that on the morning entering the car it is barely noticable but grows subtley as the air con warms up, also passing my car vac over the mats circulates the smell too.

Once mellowed (20 minutes or so) the smell is very pleasing a lot more subtle than the brash marketing suggests, most will smirk as you can clearly tell what the manufacturers had in mind when they created the signature fragrance but without any knowledge of this prior to smelling SS you would just say that it is a really really nice gentle car scent.  SWMBO complains bitterly at any air fresheners so much so they are a real pet hate but we went out for a drive to my parents for New Year's with my car wearing a fresh spritz of SS and not a peep, when I mentioned that I had used it she simply said that she just thought the car smelled nice and clean.

Very happy with this purchase, a bottle will last a long time and CG may have converted me to their Air Fresheners to such an extent I am thinking of ordering their Mangocello and maybe Grape Soda to trial.

Just to add, I also bought an Auto Finesse Sweet Shop (Strawberry Laces) and Auto Finesse Aroma (Midnight Oil) hanging type Air Fresheners just to trial a slightly better quality hanging type.

As yet these are unused as have been enjoying the SS and didn't want to start layering scents but will report back.

I am actually a little scared to open the AF Strawberry, it is seemingly so potent that the smell is leaking out of the sealed plastic bag in such a pronounced manner that my boot is awash with the smell, just noticed how powerful the smell was this lunchtime.

Out of interest Sparkly, is the SS scent pre or post gyrating  ;)  :D

As for the strawberry laces, funnily enough I had to appraise a customers car earlier and saw one of these hanging up, be jesus, the smell when I opened the door almost burnt my eyes it was way too overpowering.

Yeah, I think from my point of view, without even opening the packaging, this one is a swing and a miss from Auto Finesse.

the fact I am scared to crack the seal on the plastic says it all.

Err, the best bit

If you need some wallpaper removing, leave it in an unventilated room for a few hours and voila, no more wallpaper

The trouble with these "air freshener" products is that they are all man-made from various smelly chemicals...and affect lots of people adversely. I usually get a headache, stinging eyes and feel nauseous in cars where they are used.

A better alternative is to use aromatherapy oils...which are natural plant extracts. Some pleasant ones are mandarin, spearmint, rosewood, palmarosa etc (thanks to OH who is generous to a fault!).

...and a massage seat? :giggle:

Chris...what a smashing idea. Or....a masseuse!

As a control test to this review I did debate whether I needed to drive around with a stripper sat in the passenger seat for a week.

Must stop spending money on making this car clean and smell nice - little bit addicted to Chemical Guys Air Fresheners now.

Big thank you to Juicy Detailing which I did not realise was Andrew from DTUK's wife (Juicy Jen's) business.

Even though I managed to c*ck up a simple paypal transaction they got my order out to me same week and with nice cheap delivery too.

Right which to try first?

First impressions on sniffing the bottles (not always smart :) ) are that they smell exactly like what you might expect, Chuy Bubble Gum is maybe a bit more challenging than Grape which smells just like the Grape Soda you get in the states. Remembering that Stripper Scent doesn't smell the same from the bottle as it does in the footwell with the aircon blowing over it I am reserving judgement.

Well with three bottle I now would suggest I have a couple of years worth so best stop now................

The two hexlogic hand polishing pads are a lot firmer than I was expecting, should allow the user to get some real "passion behind the pad", both also feel like they will have cutting ability so will need to be careful with these also.
