What would cause this? At a loss

Featured Replies

So im having problems with my mk1 fabia vrs, basically don't have a clue what's wrong with it.

It's in limp mode so, doesnt really drive (not that you want to)

I found out my egr pipe was split pretty much in half, but this hasn't solved it, I have the elephant mod just breathing into the air and there's a loud hissing noise coming from it and what seems to oil and coolant spitting out from it along with smoke of some sort, if you block the hose it spit the oil dip stick.

I've checked for split boost pipes and so on, they appear to be okay, the egr is coked up a bit but seen a lot worse on here. I've kinda checked the turbo by feeling the bearing and there's no play in it.

Even took the exhaust off to see if the cats blocked but it's not. could the head gasket of gone or piston rings?

Any ideas?

I've towed it to my local garage but they don't have a clue either, it'll be off to a specialist soon.

well the elephant mod is just relocating the crank case breather and it is normal for it to spit a decent amount of oil / oil vapours out of it .... by blocking the pipe the crank case cant breathe so it will spit the dipstick out or blow a gasket in order for it to breathe.

for a start i would replace the split pipe with 2 blanking plates( sold by darkside developments a site sponsor) and then while the egr is off give it a good clean....

clean the fault codes with a scanner then give it a drive see what comes up ....

it may just be a clogged egr vavle causing the problem ?

not sure about the coolant could be head gasket?? are you sure its not condensation ? .... either way a headgasket / coolant leak shouldnt cause you to go in to limp mode?

Yeah I no a little bit is normal but this is a lot more then normal so its not right, the egr pipe has already been replaced so just leaving it on for the time been.

There isn't a fault to clear, ive plugged my diagnostic machin into it and it doesn't bring up any codes at all

Well it could be condensation coming out cos I haven't given it chance to warm up, but it's deffo lost oil an coolant.

I don't no if its actually classed as limp mode but it struggles to get above 5mph and couldn't get up the ramps at the garage

It also stinks the stuff that's coming out the elegant mod hose. Really doesn't smell nice

EGR valve looks pretty coked up to me mate. Could the EGR valve be stuck open pouring in loads of exhaust gases causing the limp? And maybe that's what you're smelling too.

Sounds like you've bent valves in one or more cylinders, has the timing belt slipped?

That EGR needs to come off and be cleaned!  I've not seen many that coked up before. I bet the turbo is in a similar state which could be causing your limp mode.

5 mph, struggling to get onto the ramp at the garage? This car is running on two cylinders at best!

I've recently had the timing belt replaced (I say recent probably around 4k ago)

I'll get the egr cleaned and hope for the best, so clean the turbo aswell then?

Excuse my ignorance but how bad are we talking if a few valves are bent and or only running on 2 cylinders?

How woukd I no if the timing belt had slipped?

How woukd I no if the timing belt had slipped?

I suspect you wouldn't, and your local garage worries me a bit as well, take it to a specialist. Seriously.

Yeah its going to go to a vw specialist garage. Getting the garage its currently at to tow it
