Fabia vrs problem

Featured Replies

Hello, im new to this forum, got a skoda fabis vrs 6 speed and it dont select 1st and reverse easy sometimes, untill i pump the clutch or failing that haveto turn the engine off! Any help???

welcome along.

My other halfs VRS has a bit of reluctance getting into 1st kind of like you describe but I've not had it investigated yet.

I did have a similar issue on my old mk2 seat Ibiza and the bushes in the gear linkage needed replacing.

Maybe, my pedal feels abit spongy near the bottom and when i try and push it into gear i can feel the car move abit, its like i havnt got the clutch in, i think it needs a new clutch and slave.

Fair enough.

If it was the clutch would it not cause a problem on all gear changes though?

I have tried adjusting the linkage, its still the same. If i reverse then select 1st it can be a pain to go in but if im slowing down and select 1st while im still roling it goes into 1st its just like the slave cylinder isnt pushing the clutch all the way in.

I had the same issue but it stopped after I gave the car a little thrashing on the A1, I've not even had a single issue with 1st and reverse gears since, and it's been a good 2 months of driving

I love the Fabia, it fixes itself, my drivers door wasn't closing and that fixed itself after 2 days, my front passenger window wouldn't go back up and it fixed itself, I had a few issues with power steering which were also fixed automatically lol

I wish mine fixed itself! It would cost me alot less!

Sounds exactly like the old 6 speed gearbox bearing issue.

And whats that?

There's a main bearing in the gearbox that starts to wear and needs replacing in most cases.  It seems to be a 6 speed box problem as I've heard a few people having similar issues.

Mine did the exact same.  Mine also had trouble getting out of first gear sometimes so it would jam slightly in first when I was trying to park.

But why does it go into gear if i pump the clutch?

Mine also did similar like that, I'm assuming pumping the pedal was moving the shaft enough to realign it.

And how mutch did the bearing cost to replace?

A mate fixed mine for me.  I'm not sure what a garage would charge.  I think the main bearing is about £30 to buy.

I can't even narrow it down to one particular bearing as a few of them can cause issues.

Sounds like an expensive job! I may aswell replace the flywheel and clutch while the box is out!

I had this a few weeks ago hasn't done it since (fingers crossed it won't do it again) had a quick search on here and ppl seemed to say flywheel/clutch noticed clutch has started to slip a lil too in high gears at peak power so guessed they was right but I'm far from any expert just what I read on here
