Gear Ratios

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm doing my dissertation at university and using a Fabia 2 1.2 HTP engine on a test-bed; but I need the gear ratio's so I can create a test that mimicks a real drive.

Skoda UK customer service had no clue, and sent me to Erwin - But before I shell out a fiver (Cheap student! ;) ) I thought that maybe someone here could know!

So; does anyone know the gear ratio's of a Fabia 2 1.2 HTP (3 cyl) with a 5 speed manual?

Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't help you with ratios.

What I will say is that I imagine you need the 5 forward drive gear ratios, depending on what your dissertation is on reverse as well, the final drive gearing from the differential and the rolling diameter of the wheel and tyre (to work out road speeds).

I imagine you are fully aware of this, again depending on what your project is on, but I thought if anyone on here has the knowledge it may help you get what you need quicker.

What are you studying if you don't mind me asking? It sounds interesting.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm studying Automotive Engineering and my dissertation is on the performance and emissions benefits of ethanol on IC engines :) So I'm creating a mock NEDC drive and recording the data. (Pure fuel, ethanol with basemap & ethanol with a remap)

I've got the full wheel diameter/weights etc so I've been able to get the total force acting on the car at each speed; but I need to know the RPM for each gear! :P

http://www.vagcat.com/

should tell you there

I have stripped a couple and swapped internals around for the road rally car and the 1.2 has a lower fd (4.24 or something ) but a couple of higher ratio's compared to the 16v

Vagcat only covers the MkI not the MkII as far as I can tell. Is there a code for the gearbox?

Is the engine the 6 or 12 valve version?

Any idea on the year of the kit youve got is?

I think it was 2010 when they gave the fabia a facelift. This included slightly higher gear ratios.

My 2013 fabia is doing 3000rpm at 70mph while my mums 2005 polo (same as the earlier pfl fabia) with the same engine (both 12v) is doing 3500rpm at 70mph.

Mine also redlines (obviously never goes there) at 6000rpm where as hers is 5800rpm

Also, i dont know if 6v (55bhp on the earlier, and 60bhp on the later cars) or 12v (65bhp on earlier and 70bhp on later) are geared the same

Fabia00,

thank you for that, it was the Ratios i wanted to see on the Cupra's 7 speed DSG & i can see the DSG ratios for the 1.2 DSG as well.

As to the 1.2 HTP

The only ratios i have for them, and not sure what car this is,

 Top Gear Ratio 0.81,

& Final Drive Ratio 4.19,

and that was on a car with 165/70 R 14 tyres.   Maybe someone know which car has that tyre size.

No problem looks like the 1.2 tsi dsg has the highest final ratio of all the engine and gearbox combinations if I'm reading it right.

Could that be for the Mk1 Fabia think base model used to have that sized wheel and before the facelift the engines used to rev higher Otaylor38 is right about revs on the Fabia upto facelift about 2010 as my old 2007 1.2 HTP used to be at 3500 revs at 70.

If the pre facelift fabia used the same tyres as the 2005 polo, then yes it would be the 165 70 r14s. My 2013 1.2htp has 195 50 r15s as standard.

However, that isnt the be all and end all, because on the newer cars skoda do apparently approve the use of 165 70 r14s as a replacement to the r15s due to the much larger availability of tyres that size, especially winter tyres.

Double post sorry

Hi all,

Thanks for all your replies!

After a bit of digging; it does seem that the same engine is used in the Ibiza! So huge thanks to Fabia00!

The 1.2TS Ibiza has all the correct power / torque figures that I have in my engine specs; the only thing that doesn't match is that elsewhere I have the same figures that match to a 6 valve; not to the 12V in the Ibiza. (Strangely my engine specs; albeit all in German, don't tell me how many valves are in there.. I'll need to chase that up later today) And I have 10.3:1 rather than 10.5:1 compression ratio.

I'm not 100% that they're the same; but it doesn't NEED to be; so this should give me a good enough result - Given that I'll be cross examining pure fuel vs ethanol data using the same tests. I just wanted to be able to also check against Skoda's actual figures to see any similar results.

Could always Take the head off n have a look how many valves are in there if you really needed to know.

Or perhaps somebody could find out off the engine number somehow?

Although i/anyone could find out if you had the vehicle reg?
