Interesting Power Steering Problem and Stereo?

Featured Replies

I have a '55 plate Furby.

Its about 85000 miles old.  AMD Remap, Eanon DBL Din touch screen Stereo and nothing major else.

Ive mentioned the above because there the only modifications ive made.

This morning I started my car up and I noticed my stereo didn't start up?  As I started to reverse, my steering was heavy as fook!  Odd I thought, so I turned it off and started again and no different.  I don't know what made me do it, but I revved it up and suddenly my stereo came on and the power steering came on?

My journey to work was fine and no issues.

When I finished work, the same happened again?  I haven't pranged it or anything?

Any ideas?

Battery! Check the wiring from the alternator, specifically the sensing wire which is blue.

Definitely voltage.  For some reason when you first started the car the alternator / battery wasn't giving enough volts to power the radio & power steering (which is very juice hungry!)  - The rev of the throttle perhaps kicked the alternator into life a bit, but something needs checking!

Sounds like the dreaded sensor wire breakage near the lower front of engine which affects the diesel engines........thin wire which breaks next to the black plastic connector near alternator I think?

Have a look at the battery; see if it has a VAG part number stamped on the top of it.  If so, it might be the original battery and may have been living on borrowed time for a while.
