Rear wheels heating up

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is my first entry to this forum.

I own a Fabia Estate 2.0 MPI 2003. Recently I noticed that the drivers (right hand traffic) rear wheel (inside of the tire) become excessively warm. Has anyone any suggestions as to why this happens?

Thankful for all suggestions

Thanks!

Binding brakes I imagine.

Just like mine.

Brake cable not releasing properly.

See thread I did yesterday on this very subject in the Fabia mk1 section.

Oh, and welcome btw.

Thanks, and I do apologize for not introducing myself as so kindly requested in the intro...

I purchased this car 2003 in Rome, factory new, being the last available 2.0 MPI July 2003, at least in Italy. The car has served the family well indeed and has now 240.000 kilometres on the odometer. Only “real” issue was when the lightning struck the parking area, literally “burning” the computer.

I am myself from Scandinavia, previously owner of Volvos and SAAB’s but to be honest, this small car beats everything in terms of practicality and economy. I am about the order the Superb Estate, but will never part from this one. I actually plan a complete overhaul, having the privilege to also partially live in CZ, and use it for future second car. I think I am “emotionally” attached to this piece of tin… :giggle:

Thanks!

I have similar 'mental issues' with my Fabia.

Wonder if we both need psychiatric help tbh.

Thanks, looks like a visit to the mechanic's is needed.

Yours got a trip computer?

I was alerted initially when the fuel consumption started rising quite dramatically....then I smelt the burning disc pads!

:giggle:  i think i know why Victor, it's getting the "job" done perfectly well, without fireworks and fanfares… It just..exists!

No increase in consumption, trip computer displayed a 6.3 avg consumption on the 900 kilometre trip recently where I first noticed this. No anomaly in consumption.

Could possibly be a knackered wheel bearing then?

I will get it to the repair shop and let you know the outcome. That was my first thought, but the wheal "hub" (small black part in the middle of the wheel, i have winter tires on for the moment) is not hot. Only the inside of the tire, the rim is cool..

Drivers wheel, right hand traffic, suggests the left hand rear wheel to me.  Are you sure that it's not getting hot due to heat from the exhaust?

Hi fordfan, it could very well be that, but then again, would i not hear that leak? I dont hear any difference in the "sound" of the exhaust...?

But yes, that makes sense...

Hi and welcome aboard.
