Hi! Just suddenly this week I've got a weird vibrating grunt noise on my vrs which only happens at 1500 and carries onuntil the revs pick up and only when driving along.

Doesn't happen at idle in neutral or clutch down.

DMF isn't that noisy.

Noise seems more 'drive' based rather than an exhaust rattle for example.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across anything similar?

Possible DMF on it's way out. When mine went it would judder very noticably between 1500 and 1900rpm.

Would you say that the car would 'judder' as in acceleration??

Short shift and put your boot down at a low speed and low revs so the engine is on load.

 

If you get a jerk or shunt at about 1500 - 2000rpm you need to clean out your EGR.

 

If it vibrates, rattles and bangs like the gearbox is about to come out the floor, you need a flywheel.

No jerking and shunting at all and not a great deal of vibrating. Only seems to happen when moving along however?

Sounds more like something in your drive train then.  I would say gearbox bearing, CV joint or something with the brakes maybe.

 

See if it's happening in different gears or even if it happens in reverse.

Happens in every gear. Could it possibly be CV joint on its way? There is a split in the boot on the side that it sounds like it *could* be from so perhaps that's a little sign. There's no clonking when turning full lock that I would expect from a CV?

I'm going with DMF, same symptoms mine had when it was on it's way out. Put it in neutral and slowly build the revs up, you should feel it vibrate. I hope it's not though as it's an expensive bit of kit !!

I've tried that and I don't get any vibration feelings through the car at all when sitting there as you say!

When was the DMF changed?

either DMF or inner cv joint.

Is the rear dogbone mount knackered as this stop the engine wobbling around everywhere

I get this exact same issue only in first gear though. As soon as I hit 1500rpm it is like something is rattling (sounds like the airbox is loose and is vibrating on something) and then stops at 2000rpm. Only does this when warm.
