Octavia 3 auto dimming rear view mirror retrofit?

Featured Replies

I ordered Skoda Octavia 3 Elegance, 2.0 diesel, DSG, led front and back and so on ....

But now after 3 days driving I realized very important thing is missing - auto dimming rear view mirror. Mirror is like in žiguli with manual knob.

Is someone knows, if car has rain sensor and automatic lights function it is simple to change mirror?

Is there wiring for connecting new mirror?

Thanks!

If it has rain sensor and auto lights then I'm 99% sure you get the auto dimming mirror anyway.....

It does also have an on / off button on the underside of the mirror too. Have a feel for that and you might find you do have it but it's switched off as I thought it was standard on elegance

Certainly in the UK all vehicles with light assistant (light/rain sensor) also come with the auto dip mirror.

The mirror unit itself differs dependant on whether the vehicle also has lane assistant or standalone high beam assist as does the physical sensor layout.

the cars with just high beam assist have a small round light rain sensor and a rounded interior mirror with a power light, rear light sensor and power button below the mirror like that fitted to alot of audi vehicles. Cars with high beam assist have a larger sensor array encorporating the lane assist camera (and i suspect provides speed sign display and high beam assist also if fitted as optional extras) and a separate light/rain sensor. The mirror is a squarer one that is also auto dipping but same as those fitted to most VW vehicles.

a car i went in without the light/rain sensor seemed to have the same kind of small circular hole on the screen where the light/rain sensor would be on a car with one and high beam assist bit obviously no sensor installed. The mirror bracket also similar but with a standard dipping mirror attached....a bit like the old shape audi A6's where they were typically fitted with standard light/rain sensors but not a dipping rear mirror.

id have thought to retrofit one would be prohibitively expensive. You "may" need a different windscreen if the sensor hole is not actually there, a new light switch and wiring. Also its possible the convenience module on a car without "might" not accomodate the functionality though it may just need power, connectivity to the headlamp switch and also a feed from the gearbox to tell it when the car is in reverse and so not to activate, this last part wouldnt be vital though.

Eddie-NL on the forum does alot of retrofits on MK2 Octavias and may know the score, worth PM'ing him perhaps or seeing if he responds on here.
