Off Shelf Detailing

Featured Replies

My vRS is in desperate need of a good clean, what off the shelf products do ppl recommend ?

I intend to invest in 'better' products in the future.

You can't really go wrong with most of the meguiars and Autoglym stuff you get at Halfords.

Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

OR High Def Wax

or Armourall Sealer

All available at Halfords

Don't use a sponge, use a sheepskin mitt or pad and two buckets..One for washing, the other to rinse out the mitt/pad every pass on the car

Dry with a MF drying towel....again, available at Halfords

3 buckets.

If you can, get to costco for the cheap MFs (but they have risen in price)

Depends on your sponge.

If you goto asda, they have some bits 50% off at the moment.

Depends on who much you want to spend and how much time you have between rain showers.

Picked up a sheepskin wash mitt, microfibre drying towel, Autoglym Shampoo and Super Resin Polish.

I'll give these a try and then invest in some 'better' products in the future.

Bloody typical British weather, I get all set-up to wash the vRS and halfway through and it starts pi55ing down !

I had plans to wash the car today, also scuppered.

Been scuppered for the last 2 weekends ... its well over due

I'd highly recommend a clay kit, meguiars and AG do one, the megs one is good as comes with cloth, cleanser, lube and 2 clay bars, use half a bar for one car. If you run out of lube fill it with back up with water and put a drip and I mean a drip of shampoo in and mix. If you apply product on a car which has not been stripped of all contaminants all you do is rub the contaminants into the paint causing damage. AG super resin polish as filling ability so will help hide smaller scratches, pop a wax on top and your be good.

Turtle Wax ICE paste wax is decent, i've used it twice so far and happy with the results

The ICE Synthetic Paste Polish in a tub I found to be excellent. Ignore the American use of polish, it's a synthetic wax and a good one.

Smells like crayons, easy on, easy off very good beading and sheeting etc.

Only issue is Halfords put it out at £20.00, Amazon however have it for £9.99 a belter at the price and you get a very nice foam applicator and a scabby MF towel you can use on your engine bay.

Yep, that's the one

I wouldn't pay £20 for it though.. not because the product isn't worth it but because an extra £10 on top of that could get me something even better

I think i paid around £14 for mine in the little clear plastic box with a foam pad, etc from Halfords last year. Purchased a few things and they had the 2 for 1 or 3 for 2, what ever offers they usually have on.

You can use it on all the plastics as well, i didn't know that when i got it, i get beading on my wipers and window trim lol

Of course, my comment above was relative to price point etc.

I found it could be applied to everything too, handy.

Could have been worse...you could have finished and it douses you before you can get it back in the garage. Happened to me yesterday. Alternatively p1ssing it down just after the snowfoam has gone on is fun too...not!

If your just after single items ebay is often cheaper. For big orders cleanyourcar is brill. Ask away we'll spend your money for you no problem.

I'll start you off. Nilfisk jet washer, proper snowfoam lance valet pro snowfoam. Iron x and tardis tar remover, billberry wheel cleaner

It's pretty much the law to own at least one Collinite wax too! ;)

microfibre madness incredimit

zaino z7

zaino z5

zaino z8

drying towel

done

all can be purchased from cleanandshiny.co.uk and i may have a 10% discount code if u message me nicely ;)

Thanks Matt..That code may come in handy to some...Why not Post it up and make it a Sticky?

Zaino is apparantly good but personally I have never tried it...so cannot comment further

I might explore it one of these days....Z8 gets rave reviews on DW

As for wash mitts.......hate them!

However, there is nothing better than a Dooka Wash Pad...superb and lasts for ever!!

Nor, is there anything better than a Chemical Guys Wooly Mammoth Drying Towel

BUT...THe thread is all about 'Off the Shelf' products.

Meguiars and AG are probably the best out there to buy from Halfords mainly

Hi Chris

Reason for not posting the discount direct onto the page and making a sticky is that as I spend a certain amount with this company I got offered this code. Means when family and friends need some discount i can offer some, thus why i wanted to offer it on here if people need it. If i was to put it as a sticky it would go viral and people i dont know would be able to make the most of it.

At least on here if people message me I can hand it out as it changes reguarly and i therefore know whats happening with it if that makes sense

Off the shelf detailing in my opinion is dead... you can get 110% better products deliverd next day for almost the same price that you get the products in halfords.

I buy alot of zaino as it is so easy to use etc... you should deffo give some of their products a go Chris you wont ever look back.

Agree that off the shelf products are poor in comparing to what's available online. I'm surprised that some of the more fashionable brands like dodo juice aren't available at halfords.

From talking to brands at waxstock... halfords have to have a big profit line it the product and epect all there shelves to be full all the time... the likes of auto glym and meguires can do that...

Im suprised though that Auto Finesse havnt gone into that market yet though....

I see your reasoning with the Discount code Matt

Im amazed that nobody can get a Foam Lance or pucker Snow foam from the likes of Halfords...or other Retail shops

I know what you mean Chris... I think the problem is the mass producing and getting the product onto the shelves. Companies have to have a lot of money to do that and im not sure many have.

Regarding discount code glad you understand, I dont mind a sticky being made about clean and shiny but i must stress i will ask for the code to be changed if i find it plastered over the forum and the inter web

Chris, I can certainly vouch for Zaino products, little goes a long way and the finish is superb, Z2 especially good on silver/white/light colours, Z5 for darker although now rule on this, I use Z2 on all colours. Lovely to use too, Z8 smells great.
