Sky tv or virgin media

Featured Replies

Hi all,

we've been looking at swapping from Virgin to sky as Virgin have informed us that the price is going up again.

I've looked at skys pricing online and they are pretty much identical to what we are paying.

the question is, givem the choice who would you choose?

for info we currently have 20mb bb, Xl tv with sky movies and basic phone. 1 tivo and 1 v+ hd box

sky would be unlimited bb entertainment extra plus with movies. 1 hd recorder box and a normal hd box.

I'd go to BT

Sky.

Try top cashback as they had double cashback rates for new customers a week or so back which would cover year 1 costs making it free

Whatever you do don't go direct through sky. Have a look at them compare websites. We managed to get exactly the same things that we looked on the sky website with them compare websites but we got 6 months half price so instead of paying something like £60 a month (including line rental) we are only paying around £32.

We also got a £25 M+S voucher.

I complained to Virgin about the latest price increase as there have been several of late and argued that BT was becoming a better deal given BT sport is getting more premium sport next year.  They then put me through to retentions and I got a free TiVo box instead of the old one, a new hub, £7 loyalty off per month for 18 months and the increase suspended for 12 months.  I will look at BT again then.

Perhaps worth a try?

Sky all the way.

I give them £115 a month

Gadgetman you are a star signed up to topcashbavk yesterday and looking through the deals as I type this.

I've switched from quidco. Better rates and no need to chase cashback as I always had to do.

Im on both - the "big" cashback earners tend to alternate the deals between the two sites.

Cant wait until May then i can get BT over a barrel - new house can get VM but tbh im happy to stay with BT if they do me a deal.

Sky all the way.

I give them £115 a month

And your proud of that amount how???

I pay Virgin £60 a month for

Tv (Tivo with extra V+ HD box in the room on XL)

Phone (XL Talk Unlimited)

Broadband (60 mb soon to be upped to 100 for free in 3-4 months, with a superhub 2)

Have been with Sky for years now and have always been happy with their service and every so often if you grumble about price down it comes. The biggest concern i'd have with Virgin is knowing that once upon a time their operatives once worked for Telewest. And what a crap company with crap service and crap employees that was.

Cannot comment on Virgin, never used them but have been with Sky for about 8 years now.

Customer Service wise has been fantastic, although not so long ago I believe they moved the customer services from Scotland (?) to an offshore call centre, where Paul with the Asian voice speaks, but have had no issues other than the language barrier sometimes.

When we moved in to the new house a couple of years ago I enquired about multi room but wasn't too pleased with the price increase; mentioned the other big companies and ending up having a 'deal' with them for 3 rooms (Sky + HD downstairs, HD in the bedrooms) and since then have managed to wangle the same deal - that reminds me, it's nearly that time of year again.

Admittedly I do give a tad over £100 per month but as the kids like the movies and I like the sport everyone's happy, plus Sky Go is a godsend when there's football on and the showrooms quiet on a Saturday  ;)

Internet side of things, again no issues and between me and the 2 boys (3 XBoxes) it does get some serious stick.

Never use the house phone as I have the mobile so can't comment on that.
