They clip in down the bottom to the metal tube. They are dam tight. I just pulled hard and it came away. Make sure new one is pressed down and clips in too.

Tight as a nuns doo dass lol :-)

Iirc the tube has like splines on it to grip the tube. I ended up breaking mine off because dowsing it in WD 40 didn't work. And a little piece dropped down into the tube on mine too. The first couple of days was a bit nerve wracking but thankfully no lasting damage!

It would be a good oppotunity to do your oil pick up. I did and found a few bits of plastic in the sump. It would never get pass the fine meah on the oil pickup though. It would have made it worse if it was already clogged though.

I think the pick up should be fine as I had an oil pump fail not too long ago, so the pick up was changed then. Its worrying though.

Well the cars due a service anyway but once funds are avalible as pritty skint after Xmas and new year will book it in with skoda.

Oh another thing when getting my car serviced from skoda which service would you's recommend last service on the history was at 121946miles.and the brake fluid was changed air filter element and oil change.the mileage is now 136009.

Also another thing the timing belt was changed at 86755 when should the second belt be done?

No you still remove and fit from top of engine. I deleted sai, n249 & n112 and had room to see what was what.

The metal tube comes up from the block. The plastic dip stick holder is actually quite short and when you clean it you will see the bottom of it. First take dip stick out. Then grab as close to the bottom lip of tube as possible and tug hard. Fitting new one is scary but as it is not brittle it won't break so just make sure you push down evenly and it will go in.

If your OK with the tools and money is a bit tight, do the service yourself. These cars a pretty easy to work on.

well tbh mate was really thinking if doing it myself but I am one for a nice service history book lol especially if it's a dealer doing the service lol :-)

how come mate I would of thought a car with higher mileage would look better with a gd service history or am I wrong lol

Once a car gets to a certain age/ mileage is worth what it's worth regardless of service stamps. I'd go for a well documented history over dealer stamps any time. That's why I keep the receipts for every nut and bolt used on the octy.

And take your car to that same dealer for a trade in and see what they offer you. Like mentioned above, by all means look after your car and service it regular, but ddon't think it'll be worth more when you come to sell. Stick some fresh oil and filters on, maybe a set of plugs if due. Your belt should be OK on this service I think its every 60k for those. Brake fluid two years so that's OK. Maybe jack it up check underneath for leaks etc and just write in the book where the dealer stamp will go for your own records. Reset your service clock when your done after 12 months/10k miles it'll flash up service. Its very satisfying doing it yourself knowing you've saved 100 quid in labour.

Well a rekon al do it myself :-) what oil would u recommend I topped the oil up the other day with castrol magnatec 5/30c would u recommend I use that for a full service then?

Also how do I reset the service light?

Phone your local TPS and just tell them the year of the car and engine etc and they will recommend which oil is best. Quantum is the oil vag use. I personally use long life 5w30 in mine even though I change it every 10k ( long life lasts 20k ). But some use 5w40 some use 10w40. TPS will tell you. Resetting the service indicator should be in your service book. Or look on you tube there is a video on there. On your clocks, I think you press and hold the right hand button and turn the left one iirc!!
