help with car not running/starting

Featured Replies

Fitted a fmic a txautosports one to my fabia, first of all it popped a boost pipe reattached that and everything was OK, I took it up the road boosted it and it was fine. I check no debris in pipes was present.

Went out later and went to boot it, it boosted fine but when coming off the throttle I heard a siren air type noise this was a high ish pitched noise and was present when driving (throughout) and when idling sounded more like an air noise however it was quieter, I checked the boost pipes and none had came off looked at all of them.

I got it recovered and told him to check turbo, fella said turbo doesn't look munched there is tiny bit of play, when it happened there was a high pitched siren type noise, it was chuffing loads of smoke out of exhaust then near wheel arch drivers side, wouldn't do more than 10 mph then wouldn't start, restarted it idled then cut out, started again and it wouldn't fire up but would always try and crank. I read a code through vcds even though there was none present on the dash (it Brought up camshaft position sensor g40). He said replacing camshaft sensor has now brought up an rpm signal which it hadn't before but it still won't start said he's going to do an easy start said he's checked camshaft lobes and it ain't worn, he thinks it's maybe slipped a tooth or two and timing is out.

Any ideas?

Could be the exhaust wheel fallen off the turbo, it would have an overspeed with the boost pipe off, I have seen then block the cat or downpipe, it could still.feel ok from the boost side of the turbo when checking it.

Sounds like what happened to my turbo when it popped.

However I would check all the pipes not just where they connect but if any have split.

i doubt it but its possible that there maybe a hole in the intercooler or weak weld.

worst case turbo has gone but i would have thought some kind of overboost would have been logged in fault codes.

Thanks chaps.

Unfortunately i dont have the car at home or I'd have checked over simple things then moved onto things like checked both ends of the turbo etc.

So you have the same syptoms as me Richard?

Cheers

When my turbo went i booted it was fine then loss of power then just the siren whistle noise. Although i was able to start mine again.

the only time i couldnt start mine was when the vacuum box played up and took the engine management fuse with it.

there is the possibilty that when you booted it the vein on the turbo got stuck which could cause the whine, and with it being linked to the vacuum box it could have done same as mine.

i am guessing your car is at a garage now?
