Missing bumper screw

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just bought a 2005 Octavia II DSG estate in excellent condition with 45,000 on the clock from my local Skoda dealership (researched with the help of this most excellent forum), which I'm having an absolute ball with.

A strange thing, though…

Today, I noticed that the 'apex' of the rear bumper on the passenger side – the point where it meets the wheel arch – sits slightly proud of the adjacent bodywork and can be pulled or pushed into/away from the car by a tiny amount. It's not a problem at all and the bumper as a whole is totally fine, but I thought I'd investigate it anyway, in case there was an easy way to fix it down.

I discovered that the same point on the other side is indeed rigidly fixed down, and using a mirror I could see a screw holding this end of the bumper in place. So far so good – presumably the screw on the passenger side has just dropped out, right? Bizarrely, though, not only is there no screw on the passenger side, there's not even a hole in which to screw said screw! It's not been covered in dirt or worn away – there's just no hole!

Is this normal, or have I got a very odd bumper?

Cheers!

J
