SDi Combi

Recommended Posts

Recently aquired by means of a swap a 51plate SDi estate...ive been interested in a skoda for some time now as my previous cars were mainly VW's with a few japs and a couple of rovers thrown in the mix.

I needed something with a bigger boot as ive not long had my first nipper and the rover streetwise boot was tiny and this came up on the swapz site...how coudle i say no..

its a bit ropey....has no mod cons what so ever (less to go wrong) and sits nicely at 130k

no name yet but much prefer the combi name as estate sounds so huge

a few pics followed by some questions

The rust on the front and rear is very very uncommon to be anywhere near that

As you state the front and rear is colour coded coupled with the crazy amount of rust id probably lean towards a front and rear shunt thats been poorly repaired

No accident damage...all panels straight..rust on the tailgate got on through the number plate screws...the front panel rust is unkown..but having worked in a bodyshop i can spot when a vehicles been in a shunt...its been badly neglected by the last owner inside and out...im currently working through a long snagging list and im hitting the scrap yards nxt wk

  • 2 weeks later...

Picked up all the internal trim pieces I was missing on a scrap yard trip this week. Also got hold of the missing tool kit/jack etc that fits in the spare wheel and won me a luggage cover on ebay....also managed to swap a set of jdm split rims I had in the shed for a set of 4 vw santa monica alloys with 4 tyres...2 scrap 2 good but too big...so ill sell em (the tyres that is) and replace em..

Im guessing 195 40 17 is the way to go?

Most people go 205/40 17 unless ur guna be going really low ;)

That rusty panel at the front is only a small panel n can be replaced without stripping much.. get one from the scrappers m8 there not normally rusty..

also the colour coding is not a factory option on any of the mk1 fabias so must have been done by someone who owned it

I did see on one of the more stripped down scrap yard cars that its just a dozen (guess) torx bolts and that front panel shud come off easy enough. Colour coding saves me doing it...especially as its been done quite well...ill see whats on offer at my tyre guy over the nxt few weeks as to what tyres I end up with...it will be lowered but only a bit as I promised the mrs the days of 100mm+ drops were over
