Interior LED light problems?

Featured Replies

I'm having a little issue at the minute with my girlfriends interior (her car, not the squidgy bits).

The center dome light above the center console was giving some trouble.  It was like a bad connection in the unit so I opened it and it had LED lights in it.  One was flickering, and one would be hit and miss if it came on or not.

So I took the unit down, fiddled with it a bit and it did seem to be a slightly dodgy connection but I still couldn't get it to work consistently.  I swapped it with the 100% working light unit out of my own car.  Again, same kind of problems just like a bad connection.

I put my own working bulbs into it and decided to leave it so I can have a look at it later.  I don't think the normal bulbs lit up at all at any point.  But as it was left, basically, the bulbs aren't coming on at all now with the switches or doors.  Would that be a fuse 4 problem?  Or would there be another problem to look for?

For some reason your first sentence caused a slight giggle!

:giggle: Are you sure this is the correct forum for discussions of that nature?

(I'm sorry - I have no idea what the issue may be and I don't normally take posts off topic but the possibilities for mis-quotes on that are too much to resist! Hope you work it out - the lamp that is.....)

Sorted.

Fuse 4 had gone, that was easily sorted.

However, 2 of the LED clusters were faulty as well.  Standard bulbs are in and it's working fine now.

I still like the white light though so I need to try and get 'decent' led ones.

Barry, these are the ones i'm using for the main light.

And these are the ones i'm using for the map lights.

They both give excelent light and were purchased in September 2012

I'm also using yellow versions of the LED's as my sidelights to match the yellow bulbs, they're the only set I've bought that have not flickered and died.

To make the festoons fit you need to pinch the contacts together a bit, but nothing major.

Cool, I'll look into them.  The SM leds definitely would be more reliable than the standard ones.

Both the VRS' we have will be going xenon  (Her car already has oem xenons) so we'd prefer white if possible.

I've noticed an issue on a lot of fabias including my own where one sidelight bulb is a lot brighter than the other which I need to suss out too.

Got a set of ceramic bodied LED W5Ws ordered there so hopefully they'll be grand for both sidelights and interior and they'll be handy to have.

I also ordered a set of the white festoon sm led ones.

With any luck that's another small job sorted and out of the way.
