The Nightmare Continues....!

Featured Replies

Having discovered the engine block was cracked I managed to source a replacement engine and was beginning to get things sorted at long last.

However....

The garage then sent off the Gas Flowed head to be pressure tested and this was found to have crackes in two places - so that has now been binned.

The turbo was also sent off for repair and without going into mechanic speak (which I am not) it requires various parts to be replaced or machined with the added problem of understanding the replacement parts as it is a custom turbo so not exactly like for like!!!

Costs seem to be escalating as having paid for a replacement engine there is still the turbo (awaiting a price) and the garage fees for stripping and re-fitting everything and the fact I have had a courtesy car for over a month now.

As you can appreciate it is getting more frustrating by the day and makes me feel that putting some bits back to standard would not be such a bad idea.

On a positive note (which isnt easy at the moment) the replacement engine is on its way - just hope that doesnt have any issues !!

well done for sticking with it .... if it was mine it would have been broken for spares long before now

I'm sure I saw alloy repair work somewhere.....seems a damn shame to have work go into the parts like that and it just get binned.

I think they staple it across the crack or something....you can google it. Whether its economically viable compared to just replacing with another though is a different question altogether just that it is theoretically possible.

Sorry to hear about your run of poor luck, hope you get it all sorted and can enjoy it again. It's a lovely car and one of my favourites off the forum.

To be honest if it wasn't for the fact that it is probably the last ever Mk1 VRS registered and up until now was an awesome machine I would have chucked in the towel a while ago.
