mk1 vrs front anti roll bar?

Featured Replies

Just acquired front and rear anti roll bars. Rear is fine as I know about it but the front anti roll bar is my problem.

it's an eibach 25mm front but the ends are looped and i have been told that the vrs have straight ends on the bar. I cant ready the eibach part number to check it out and see if its correct.

it also came with 2 rubber drop links about 6 inches long attached to the bar. So it looks like it should attach to the wishbone and not to the strut.

can I use this bar or not ill try and get some pictures up later

It is this arb. Can I use itpost-109324-0-20557300-1390395850_thumb.jpg

Could use it if you've got the holes on your bottom arms, but it's not the right bar for a vRS

The front end set up on the vrs is different to non vrs octavias. The anti roll bar link goes to the shock absorber hence why the link is so long. The other set up uses a shorter link and bolts to the bottom arm and looking at your bar that's the type you have. I suppose if the hole is there on the arm you could use it but IMHO you'd be better keeping your standard front anti roll bar rather than doing that.

Why what is the benefit of having the longer drop link to the strut opposed to the wishbone?

I'm not actually sure why the vrs set up is that way. Its the same set up as the Leon cupra r Audi s3 so there must be some benefit. I do know with the farb like yours there can be issues when lowering the car because the bar must loop round the driveshaft, so lowering means the bar catches on them. Maybe that's why they are different because all the cars I've mentioned will be lower than normal. It'll be interesting to see if someone has a proper answer for that....... Unlike me!!

It's to do with leverage I think so the anti roll bar connected to the strut is better than the bottom arm as it gives a different pivot point.

I would have thought that with the shorter drop link it would be more stable as it has less stress and tension on it and less distance to travel

No, not with bushes on each on the drop links, and where they mount to. It is nowhere near as rigid. However, the fact that it is a 25mm bar might make up for it, but I still wouldn't bother. It's a lot of arseache changing the front arb for something that may turn out to be a downgrade.
