brake discs

Featured Replies

Hi to everyone...

question...are VRs's prone to brake discs warping? I've had my 2007 VRs since September and I am now getting a shudder through the brake pedal and a slight shudder through the steering when I brake, gets worse when I brake heavy?

Much more likely to be crud building up on the discs.

Check for split/loose CV joint gaiters, especially if brake performance is reduced.

When they split or the clips come loose they throw grease out, potentially fouling brake discs despite heat/dust shields and give a pulsing sensation.

If left unchecked the brakes become inefficient to the point the ABS won't activate even when standing on the pedal.

If they are loose, ensure the joint and inner gaiter surfaces are degreased else they will just slip off again despite a new clip being fitted.

i'll give the brakes etc a good jet wash, if that doesn't cure it then i'll drop by my friendly mechanic...let him have a gander!

Get a can of brake cleaner but obviously keep it away from any paint. I've had a set of Pagid discs I am pretty sure had warped due to very heavy use.

Prob not warped, that's quite rare and would probably mean a duff caliper. It would judder quite strongly all the time when braking, I had that on a Focus, it ate 3 disks on one side before it was picked up properly.

It's probably pad deposits baked into the disk. It makes a raised area on the disk face that can pulse when braking.

My Pagid disks and pads are prone to this. Solved by taking the car out and driving like a loon. Repeated hard long braking to get the disks nice and hot scuffs off the problem area.

Holts brake cleaner 600ml aerosol is actually Prestone deicer relabelled!

£3 from tesco, same as from local motor factors.

cheers guys, i'll give the brake cleaner / jet hose route a go followed by the "driving like a loon" (any excuse - lol) hopefully that will cure it!
